Roomful of Teeth is a GRAMMY-winning vocal project dedicated to reimagining the expressive potential of the human voice. Through study with masters from vocal traditions the world over, the eight-voice ensemble continually expands its vocabulary of singing techniques and, through an ongoing commissioning process, forges a new repertoire without borders.

-ISMS: Exploring the Intersectionality of Identities was a publication that accompanied the RISD Global Initiative 2017 exhibit of the same name. The exhibit explored the intersections of identity and art and featured pieces that were selected for critique by visiting artist and MLK Series keynote speaker Emory Douglas. This publication contains images of student artwork from the exhibit along with essays and other text.

A Portfolio Of Compositions, Anne-Marie O'Farrell

Research Theses

The works in the attached portfolio address a number of compositional focal points: to bring together diverse strands of musical influence into sustained musical argument, across various large-scale media; to enlarge and explore the musical language of the harp, including the lever harp; and to integrate received materials into new music so as to create a different context while acknowledging musical inheritance. These combine with the exploration of inherent instrumental colour within my approaches to rhythm, harmony, melodic transformation, structure and the use of text to demonstrate the development of my compositional style during my PhD study. Anyone who plays an instrument can tell you that reading classical music can often feel as complicated as struggling through a dense philosophical reading. Trying to play a classical piece with the correct attitude, tempo, and dynamics can be difficult let alone paying attention to crescendos, trills, and other notations in the piece. It is especially frustrating when you think you have performed a piece as it should be played only to have someone point out that the performance was not good enough since you did not play it with the right “attitude” or lacked the correct “touch”. Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Concentration camps during the Holocaust were populated by various groups of people imprisoned for reasons that were not always associated with religious beliefs. This diversity led to a natural segregation among these groups of prisoners, dependent upon the prisoner’s nationality, the camp’s classification, and its date of establishment. Because of overwhelming feelings of isolation in the majority of the prisoners, it was common to turn to music and music making as means of creating solidarity between the prisoners for survival of their day-to-day experiences.
