Throughout classical music history, most major composers of the baroque, classical and romantic eras overlooked the bass as a solo instrument leaving the instrument’s repertoire tragically underdeveloped. In recent decades, however, a significant number of virtuoso double bassists has emerged and, along with them, significant new solo works have changed the way the instrument is played and heard. These luminary bassists devoted much of their careers to developing a new pedagogy for the double bass in an effort to compensate for centuries of pedagogical deficiency. Tchaikovsky’S Violin Concerto: The Composer’S Original, Auer’S Edition, And The Performer’S Dilemma, Caitlin Johnson, Alexander Woods

Journal of Undergraduate Research

I began my project with two purposes: to compile a history of the evolution of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35, including the compositional process, premiere history, different editions, and performance tradition; and to synthesize that research in an informed performance of the concerto. The Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto is a landmark in the genre’s evolution. Initially deemed too difficult to play and too transgressive of musical norms, the concerto received vitriolic reviews. The Irish Experience: Identity And Authenticity In Irish Traditional Music, Elizabeth Graber

Over the last century, Irish traditional music, or “trad,” has become a global phenomenon that has flourished in communities from the United States of America to Japan. A musician need not be Irish in heritage to play and do justice to Irish traditional music or to feel a strong emotional connection to it; yet ethnic ties, real and imagined, constitute a powerful reason to play. The music is inextricably linked with the poetically-titled Emerald Isle even if its musicians are not. Clarada’ was composed between November 2012 and August 2013. It is one of a number of electro-acoustic works I have written to allow a performer not particularly familiar with the medium to explore. The composition is intended to appeal to an equally inexperienced audience.

Consumer Perceptions Of Cross Promotional Strategies: Exploratory Research In The Music And Fashion Industries, Nora E. Heally

The aim of this study was to explore how cross-promotion and experiential marketing influence brand building within the context of the music and fashion industries.

A-B testing was used to collect data on user perception of different design elements on a point-of-purchase web page. The data was analyzed to determine which design elements were most successful in positively influencing purchase intent of the user.

Overall, the participants is this study favored the treatment websites (58% average) to the control websites (42% average). To appeal to the consumer and begin the experiential marketing process for an event, a website should contain …

This study employed several distinct disciplines in mathematics to isolate, examine, and optimize the various costs involved in managing a soup kitchen. “Soup Kitchen Statistics” is a mathematical model illustrating the inverse relationship between the ambient outside temperature and the homeless population of Joliet, IL. The use of calculus revealed key relationships among vital factors, the most important of which included the daily costs of operation as a function of meal attendance dependent on outside temperature.
