This recital was given in partial fulfillment of a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance at the University of Northern Iowa. The selections included in this program are works which are representative of both the historical and contemporary styles of percussion composition. The following abstract provides discussion in the historical background, compositional styles, systems of notation, and performance techniques used in each of the works from the program.

In partial fulfillment of the degree Master of Music, Bonnie Alger presented a conducting recital with members of the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra. The recital took place on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 8 p.m. in Davis Hall of the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on the University of Northern Iowa campus. The program included works by Mozart, Rodrigo, and Wagner, and represented three of the major stylistic periods in classical music (Classic, Romantic, and Twentieth Century). First-year graduate student Sarah Duvel, mezzo-soprano, was a featured soloist on the second work.

On Wednesday, March 11, 2009, Elizabeth Ann Carr, soprano, presented a recital in partial fulfillment of the Master of Music Degree in vocal performance. The recital opened with On this Island, a cycle of songs by Benjamin Britten, set to the collection of poetry by W.H. Auden entitled Look, Stranger! This cycle was followed by three melodies by Faure, on the poetry of Verlaine and Samain. The second half of the recital featured Menotti's Canti della lontananza on text written by the composer, and the last set consisted of three complimentary songs of Joseph Marx on text by Lingen, Hartleben, …
