Junior High School Students' Perception Of The Messages Conveyed Through The Lyrics Of Rock Music, Steven M. Russey

The purpose of this study was to discover whether or not the accompaniment of a lyric sheet while listening to rock music would aid a student's correct identification of the message conveyed by that song. Participants included one 7th and one 8th grade class of "gifted" students (N = 62). Other elements examined involved students' judgment of the messages as negative or positive, as well as the tonality of each song as pleasant or unpleasant and how these judgments related to correct or incorrect identification of the messages. Interviews include Kate Brett, Diane Jones, Jessica Bills, Lynne Davis (about Molly O’Day), Kim Johnson (including Wilson Douglas), Sylvia O’Brien, Helena Triplett, Pam Lund, Cari Norris, and Dora Mae Wagers. This collection includes ten cassette tapes with the interviews and ten folders of transcripts for each interview.

The Prelude BWV 999 exists as a copy written down by a friend of Bach, Johann Peter Kellner. The title is "Praelude in C Mol/pour la lute/di Johann Sebastian Bach." The transposition to D minor from the original C minor for lute matches the requirements of the modern classical guitar. The Prelude is forty-three measures long. A one-measure rhythmic pattern is consistently used through the piece. After establishing D minor in the first seven measures, the work proceeds toward the key of A through a sixteen-measure pedal point on the dominant E from measure 1 7 through measure 32. This …

This recital was prepared and presented in partial fulfillment of the Master of Music in Flute Performance degree requirements. The pieces presented represent a variety of musical styles, historical periods, and instrumental combinations. The purpose of this abstract is to provide a brief overview of the works performed and to offer insights into the historical context of each piece. Knowledge gained in writing this document was valuable to the performer in preparing the recital.

An Interpretive Analysis Of Bela Bartok's Performance Of His Own Music, Shu-Yuan Yang

Bartok's recordings made between 1912 and 1945 are considered valuable sources to Bartok interpreters. These recordings provide us with a wealth of information about the composer's intentions and helpful interpretive ideas. This study shows that Bartok performs with great freedom that expresses what goes beyond the scores.

The pieces selected in this study include Bagatelle Op. 6 No. 2, Evening in Transylvania from Ten Easy Piano Pieces, the first movement of Suite Op. 14, and Allegro Barbaro. By analyzing Bartok's recordings on these four pieces, this thesis explores that Bartok's interpretive decisions are related to stylistic and structural characteristics. …
