On April 14th, 2022, pianist Colin Evers performed a solo piano recital in Davis Hall of the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The recital consisted of Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor Op. 13 “Pathétique” by Ludwig van Beethoven, Sonatine pour Piano by Maurice Ravel, Liebesleid by Fritz Kreisler, arranged for solo piano by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Étude No. 12 in D-sharp minor, Op. 8, by Alexander Scriabin, and Ballade No. 4 in F minor Op. 52 by Frédéric Chopin.

The purpose of this recital is to partially fulfill the requirements for the Master of Music degree in Jazz Pedagogy, and to display musical proficiency on drum set, piano, and bass guitar. Luke Sanders presented his graduate jazz recital on April 24, 2022, at 4:00 PM in Bengtson Auditorium. The recital program included ten pieces in total: two pieces on drum set, piano, and bass guitar, and four pieces on electric guitar. The euphonium, trombone, and tuba do not have the breath of solo and chamber music repertoire that other instruments such as the piano or violin do. The majority of works being written for these instruments today is being written via direct commissions and commission consortiums. This research analyzes the importance of expanding the repertoire of these instruments, along with detailed guidance on starting a consortium project and seeing it through to completion. When compared to other areas of musical performance, medical research on the performing arts is limited when it comes to studies on woodwind players, particularly saxophonists. The gap in research may be attributed to the circumstances surrounding selection processes and identifying subjects for study. For example, saxophonists are not salaried professionals in orchestras, which are commonly pooled for medical research. Establishing contact with saxophonists to conduct studies can prove difficult due to the wide range of genres that utilize the saxophone. Some issues may also be attributed to research methodology. The connection between nature and the music of Claude Debussy is unique and fascinating, with nature serving as a source of influence and inspiration for Debussy. Debussy looked upon nature with veneration and this viewpoint helped to form the musical ideals that he pursued while breaking with the traditional forms of music. In this guest editorial, the author provides evidence of the unreliable nature of the majority of Tárrega’s first editions, and the substandard quality of most modern editions. The author argues that in light of the recent availability of formerly inaccessible primary sources, the time is right for a scholarly edition of Tárrega’s complete works with state-of-art editorial methods.
