This project was to design and develop a model program in music orientation and skill development for Li-Gang Elementary School, Ping-Dong, Taiwan. To accomplish the purpose, a review of current literature regarding elementary-level music programs was conducted. The program emphasizes activities that will help music become a part of a child's overall development and education, and is based on the premise that music classes for young children should be "Fun with a Purpose" and "Learning by Doing". "Periodically through history, the church has been confronted with the problem of the introduction of new elements into an existing tradition. In the context of congregational singing, this issue centered on the infiltration of secular elements. The purpose of this study is to present such situations, to show how people dealt with change in their time, and to draw lessons from it for today."

A Survey Of The Special Learner Training Of Music Educators In Ohio, Dorianne J. Nicholson

Music educators from the Ohio Music Educators' Association were surveyed to investigate the special learner training received in undergraduate and graduate programs. The survey was designed to provide demographic data and information about course settings for special learner training, observations, "hands-on" experiences, topics covered in both undergraduate and graduate courses, and the need for additional training.
Of the 200 surveys sent to Ohio music educators, 83 usable responses were returned. Twenty-four percent (n=19) of the respondents reported having special learner training in their undergraduate programs. Of these 19, 42% were required to participate in observations, and 24% were required to …

This study identified new music education resources in CD-Rom, videodisc, and computer software formats created from 1990-1995. Each item was evaluated according to its effectiveness in meeting the three different domains of learning; affective, cognitive, and psychomotor. The study also identified items that exhibited multicultural diversity. The resulting annotated bibliography lists twenty-two resources with critical evaluations of use to music teachers and library media specialists.

This thesis examines transitions of music education within the Church of God (COG), Cleveland, Tennessee. A Pentecostal denomination with its roots in the South, the COG uses a rich mixture of musical styles derived from regional culture and shaped by its religious outlook. Since education occurs in any social institution, and since the COG has the highest percentage growth rate of any Protestant denomination, it is important to research the development and effects of music teaching methods used in what has become a highly influential organization. In its earliest stages, the COG was the focus of persecution due to ignorance …

New innovations in scheduling at the secondary level in many high schools have resulted in "block scheduling", whereby, students meet in classes for a longer time period than the norm (50-55 minutes). In the area of performing arts, this expanded schedule presents new opportunities for the inclusion of musicianship skills. This study will provide guidelines and resources for strengthening the musicianship of students currently participating in block scheduling within their performance classes. The exercises and lessons included will reflect the guidelines of the National Standards for the Arts.

Elementary Music Through Drama: A Sequential Resource Guide, Kelley Ann Bruce Bliss

This project is a sequential resource guide of introductory music experiences that utilize drama techniques all of which culminate with performances. This particular resource guide is designed to be used in conjunction with the general music curriculum where musical ideas and concepts are the main focus for learning. Drama is introduced into the resource guide to augment the existing music program. The use of drama is used to reinforce these musical concepts and thus enhance the musical experience.
