The intent of this project is to translate various documents used by the United Way of San Luis Obispo County from English to Spanish. Due to the large number of native Spanish-speakers in San Luis Obispo County, there is a great need for information about community resources to be available in Spanish. Due to the nature of languages having many dialects, a significant amount of research was put into determining the dialect and word choice for the translations. The intent of this project is to research and observe how current language teaching techniques could be improved to better accommodate introverted students. One third of the population identifies as introverted, yet language classes are obviously designed for extroverted students. Introverted students have unique learning styles that are being overlooked, and this project aims to create options that would improve introvert’s language acquisition.

En Dire Trop Sur Les Noirs? Contextualizing Genet’S Preface To Les Nègres, Brian Gordon Kennelly

What does the French playwright Jean Genet accomplish by rewriting the lengthy preface that he had prepared for his play Les Nègres? After discussing how the preface contextualizes the play, we consider for the first time the significance of the evolution of Genet’s authorial intentions both at the microtextual and macrotextual levels by comparing the full-length preface with its shortened, reordered version. We show that in rewriting his preface Genet endeavored to be more ambiguous as well as to counterbalance the cuts he had also made in rewriting the play for which it was written.

This paper focuses on the influence of Don Quixote in modern cinema, television, literature, and magazines. It explores the ground breaking episodic nature of the work which has continued on to television, comic books, and graphic novels today. The project demonstrates timeless tropes and motifs that have been used in Don Quixote, Greek mythology, 20th and 21st century cinema, and television programs. This document takes a specific look at the social commentary of women’s rights and the double standards that are displayed in this work that still exist today. This project is an attempt to develop a fictional Spanish narrative, resolving around one particular difficulty that many families have to cope with in our country today, namely the imprisonment of a loved one. In our story, we address and scrutinize the staggering number of imprisoned Latinos in the California correctional system, how race and affiliation negatively plays a role in the life of an inmate, and then how this constitutes to the generation of largest amount gang members throughout the entire country.

“Winning is not convincing” was the response of the Rector of the University of Salamanca, Miguel de Unamuno, when faced with the military arrogance of General Millán-Astray during the Spanish Civil War. Speaking truth to power, these last public words uttered by Unamuno rise up as the capstone of the courageous defense of freedom of conscience by an academic against despotism. Here we analyze his literary and philosophical thought throughout a life of writings consistent with his personal sufferings on behalf of conscience.
