Shelo Yigamer L’Olam: La Construcción De Identidades Compuestas En La Comunidad Judía De Iquitos, Perú / Shelo Yigamer L'Olam: The Construction Of Composite Identities In The Jewish Community Of Iquitos, Peru, Beatrice Waterhouse
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Tomando En Cuenta: Perspectivas Sobre Las Tomas Del Movimiento Estudiantil Chileno / Taking Into Consideration: Perspectives On The Tomas Of The Chilean Student Movement, María Navarro-Gutiérrez
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
Humanity Balancing On A Turtle’S Back: Perceptions And Values Of Sea Turtle Conservation Among Different Demographics At Four Sites In The Bocas Del Toro Archipelago Bocas Del Toro, Panama, Roxanne Hoorn
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
Being the ancient, world traveling, iconic mega-fauna they are, sea turtles have found their way into cultures and traditions around the world, often holding great prestige. Along with their mystical qualities, sea turtles have also been intricately intertwined in the livelihoods of cultures around the globe, utilized for food, jewelry, income, and more recently, scientific research. The ways in which humans around the world perceive the value of this species varies greatly, often causing conflict between those who wish to protect and conserve sea turtles, and those looking to continue using turtles as either a source of income or food. …
Exilios Secretos Y Sujetos Invisibles: Guillermo Cabrera Infante Y Antonio José Ponte, Isabel Alvarez-Borland
Exilios Secretos Y Sujetos Invisibles: Guillermo Cabrera Infante Y Antonio José Ponte, Isabel Alvarez-Borland
(Sub)Versions Of Banditry: Ferréz’S Re-Appropriation And Redefinition Of The Marginal Identity, Marissel Hernández-Romero
(Sub)Versions Of Banditry: Ferréz’S Re-Appropriation And Redefinition Of The Marginal Identity, Marissel Hernández-Romero
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This study examines how Ferréz’s work is related to the 19th and early 20th century banditry narrative. The current study examines the evolution of the work of Ferréz and discusses his relevance in Brazilian and Latin America literature. However, this dissertation examines in what extent Ferréz’s work transgresses the genre in that he breaks its rules and departs from its traditions. Rather than being the voice of the elite put into the mouth of a lower-class bandit character, Ferréz’s bandits speak with the voice of the oppressed and subversively criticize the elite. His work is not viewed through …
Testimonios (Re)Creados: La Nueva Novela Testimonial Latinoamericana, Reynaldo Martinez
Testimonios (Re)Creados: La Nueva Novela Testimonial Latinoamericana, Reynaldo Martinez
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
In the last twenty years, the writing of testimonial literature in Latin America has gradually declined due in part, because civil war struggles in Central and South America have ceased and the misrepresentation of facts in testimonial narratives have discouraged readers and critics from studying testimonial literature with the same enthusiasm as previously done. Another contributing factor is the question of authorship of these narratives because of problematic issues in identifying whether or not the informant or the transcriber authored the work. Furthermore, scholars realize that at times the transcriber interrelate fact and fiction to the extent of creating a …
“La Modernización Y Sus Fantasmas: Violencia, Exceso Y Ritual En ‘La Gata De Mi Madre’ De Carlos Fuentes, Jose J. Alvarez
“La Modernización Y Sus Fantasmas: Violencia, Exceso Y Ritual En ‘La Gata De Mi Madre’ De Carlos Fuentes, Jose J. Alvarez
Jose Alvarez

The Colonial Remix: Power And Language In Colonial And Digital Spaces, Susana Aho
The Colonial Remix: Power And Language In Colonial And Digital Spaces, Susana Aho
The Quiet Corner Interdisciplinary Journal
This paper maps the similarities between colonial and digital media histories, as well as the repercussions these similarities might have on constructions of power and language in a digital age. The colonial encounter in sixteenth century led to the eventual displacement of indigenous pictographic forms by Western alphabetic ones. However, the first years of encounter are also marked by experimentation in which these two forms were combined in unique ways, creating hybrid reading and writing methods. Similarly, digital platforms are able to combine previously separate media (photography, film, 3D animation, print design, maps, etc) in the same files and environments, …
