Self-compassion is a growing area of research worldwide and has shown promise to be useful in providing insight and intervention against rising mental health issues. Self-compassion has also been linked to psychological well-being as well as negative psychological outcomes, which makes it an ideal measure for mental health. However, the instrument to measure self-compassion has not been comprehensively translated and validated in Malaysia yet. This study attempts to investigate humour translation in two Malaysian Chinese New Year films: Woohoo! and The Journey. There are two objectives of this study: i) to find out the translation strategies used in subtitling humour into English subtitles, and ii) to analyse whether the humour in the films is effectively translated into English subtitles. Chiaro’s (2010) strategies for subtitling verbally expressed humour (VEH) are adopted to analyse the strategies employed in subtitling humour. This genre-based research examines and compares the rhetorical structures of Malaysia and England and Wales Court of Appeal judgements. This comparative genre study is motivated by a statement by the former Malaysian Judge of the High Court, Dato’ Syed Ahmad Idid and Umar A. Oseni (2011) in a writing guide book that presents a standard model to write legal judgements that can be adapted to all legal jurisdictions across the world. This study adopts the Cognition Hypothesis to examine the effects of task complexity, (+/- causal reasoning demand) and task condition (individual, dyadic and triadic groupings) on the L2 individual writing and peer interaction. A 2 (Task Complexity) x 3 (Task Condition) repeated-measures ANOVA (RM-ANOVA) research design, was employed on 36 Malaysian university students. Six argumentative topic-based written texts were produced by each participant in each of the three sessions. Kamus Dewan (KD4) is the latest issue of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Malay monolingual dictionary. Beside the native Malay words, the dictionary also records a great number of entries of loan words from foreign languages such as Arabic, which is labeled 'Ar'. This study evaluates the efficacy of machine translation (MT) in domains where MT is not conventionally used, that is, in non-technical domains where the subject matters involve human, social and/or societal phenomena.
