The emergence of Hamas in 1987 cannot be separated from the configuration of modern colonialism and the continuity of occupation that shaped the political reality. Hamas’s early phase was rooted in socio-religious activities through education and community empowerment programs, before evolving into armed resistance against the occupation. The labeling of Hamas as a “terrorist” organization began in the mid-1990s in U.S. legal documents, which subsequently generated debate and gave rise to counter-narratives. This study employs the frameworks of critical geopolitics (Ó Tuathail & Agnew) and the Discourse-Historical Approach (Wodak) to analyze the labeling of Hamas as “terrorist” by Western hegemony. …

Subtitling Strategies For Translating Korean Terms Of Address Into Indonesian, Annisa Puji Lestari, Usmi Usmi

This study examines the subtitling strategies used in translating Korean terms of address into Indonesian, with a focus on how sociocultural meanings embedded in Korean address systems are conveyed in the target language. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the study analyses a corpus of dialogue excerpts taken from two Korean drama series. The findings identify seven categories of address terms: proper names, occupational titles, kinship terms, common nouns, attention-getters, pronouns, and child name-derived forms. Proper names are the most frequent category, followed by occupational titles, kinship terms, common nouns, and attention-getters, whereas pronouns and child name-based forms occur less frequently. …

The demonstrations that took place in Indonesia from late August 2025 to early September 2025 attracted global attention and were reported by Arabic-language international media. News media can produce meaning and shape international public perception in their representation of demonstrations in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the representation of the demonstrations in Indonesia in Arabic-language international media, namely Al-Jazeera Mubasher, Al-Araby Al-Jadid, Al-Arabiya, and BBC Arabic. Legal text translation is challenging because of its emphasis on semantic and syntactic faithfulness, while ST structures do not always have correspondent TL equivalents. One of such structures is the English “preposition + which” (PW) construction. This study analyzes the occurrence of taboo expressions and their translation strategies into Dutch in the movie The Big 4. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative method. The analysis in this study uses theories related to the category of taboo expressions from Wardhaugh (2006) and Allan & Burridge (2006), then the theory of translation strategies of taboo expressions from Davoodi (2009). This article provides a revised critical edition and annotated translation of the Kārakasaṁgraha, a Sanskrit grammatical treatise as it has been preserved in Balinese manuscripts. The work is a synthesis of Indian grammatical traditions, notably including aspects of both Pāṇinian and Kātantra systems, which was probably recomposed in the premodern Indonesian archipelago. While its Sanskrit matrix is witness to local adaptation, the interspersed Old Javanese commentaries also show a striking reframing of grammatical discourse in ritual and cosmological idioms. This research focuses on translation and language errors discovered in English-Indonesian translation results. This study aims to investigate the types of errors mostly made by Indonesian novice translators. The data were obtained from translation practice assigned to undergraduate students, who were taking the compulsory basic translation course. The respondents, who were native Indonesian speakers, were asked to translate two paragraphs from a given text in class for one hour and send their translations to the raters via email. The raters then marked the errors in the students’ translations using the 2021 ATA’s Standardized Framework for Error Marking. The results of …
