This paper aims to shed light on the dissonance caused by the superimposition of Dominant Human Systems on Natural Systems. I highlight the synthetic nature of Dominant Human Systems as egoic and linguistic phenomenon manufactured by a mere portion of the human population, which renders them inherently oppressive unto peoples and landscapes whose wisdom were barred from the design process. The overall purpose of this research was to show the origin and relationship of the Xhosa language between the Khoi-Khoi People, S.E.K. Mqhayi, and the crew on the S.S Mendi. They all had one thing they suffered from language discrimination. Most important the research also attempts to show how a language can die out when native speakers have no cultural capital.

Black women wearing fabulous braids are a striking feature of the Afro-diasporic cultural landscape. However, the braiders and salon owners who enable this aesthetic engineering are seldom acknowledged. This dissertation investigates the experience and role of Caribbean and West and Central African women in the hair braiding industry, a rapidly growing business in the U.S. I address the complexity of these women’s multiple social roles and the multiple consciousness (King, 1988) associated with their demographic characteristics (color, ethnicity, gender, nationality, and immigrant status). Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

Tanzania presents a perfect case of former colonies that have strived to redress colonial legacies. The Africanization policy adopted after independence and cemented in the 1967 Arusha Declaration was a deliberate move to replace foreign workforce and practices with African values. Education was one of the sectors that needed and, indeed, received a lot of transformations. This paper particularly discusses language practices in the education system in Tanzania in that context. While both theory and practice favour Kiswahili as a medium of instruction at all levels of education, policy seems to work to the contrary. The discussion revolves around the …

As in all postcolonial societies confronted with the question of illiteracy, in Algeria, film adaptations pose a political and cultural stake. Due to the phenomena of political and moral censure and self-censorship, only ten novels were carried over to the screen during one 36-year period. However, with the rebirth of Algerian cinema in the Nineties, screenwriters are once again interested in setting Algerian novels in images. These new adaptations, which are often done in co-production with France and Belgium, introduce the new problems of language.
