Il presente articolo intende innanzitutto ricostruire il panorama dei numerosi programmi di studi universitari americani a Firenze, per poi focalizzare l’attenzione sui due in cui gli autori operano, l’uno sul campus statunitense e l’altro sul campus fiorentino, al fine di indagare lo sviluppo della competenza interculturale fra gli studenti e come essa abbia inciso sull’integrazione linguistica e culturale degli stessi. Comfort Food, Acquired Taste, And Fusion Cuisine: A Migrant Journey, Giovanna Bellesia

This essay looks at food through the lens of immigration by analyzing the work of migrant writers in Italy. Comfort food, acquired taste and fusion cuisine are used to illustrate different stages of the migration process. Migrant writers have often used food as a metaphor to describe their longing for their homeland, for an idealized time and place when they felt safe, secure in their identity. Cooking and eating, sharing and learning culinary traditions foster integration and develop acquired tastes in the destination culture. In recent years, the declining importance of the nation-state and an increase in globalization have encouraged scholars to move towards the borderless world of seas and oceans, giving special attention to their diasporic movements of people and goods. Lately, this “new thalassology” has witnessed an outburst of Mediterranean studies. Yet the resurgence of the Mediterranean in the postmodern, anti-nationalistic arena must be critically assessed. The risk in such studies is a reinforcing of old stereotypes, what the anthropologist Michael Herzfeld calls “Mediterraneism.” The present article highlights the work of two scholars and one writer who alert us to the manifold …
