Woodstock '69: Catalyst For Counterculture?, Rachel Shook
Woodstock '69: Catalyst For Counterculture?, Rachel Shook
Student Research Poster Presentations 2024
This poster divulges on the societal impact the original Woodstock festival had, specifically on the counterculture movement of the nineteen sixties. The music festival, lasting between August 15th to August 17th of 1969, became a spontaneous event along the woods and farms of Bethel, New York. With as many as half of a million fans in attendance, this festival became much more than just a series of concerts. With such a spontaneous event gathering individuals from across the nation, this sparked this debate amongst historians regarding whether Woodstock truly was as impactful to counterculture as widely acclaimed to be, or …
Communism As An Americanism: The Curious Case Of The Red Jeffersonians, Matthew H. Hill
Communism As An Americanism: The Curious Case Of The Red Jeffersonians, Matthew H. Hill
[Archive] Belmont University Research Symposium (BURS)
The communist movement in the United States has struggled with many issues over its long history. One of these problems is the problem of American history itself. The United States, in many ways the quintessential capitalist state, would seemingly represent the ultimate enemy for a communist. It is more than a little bizarre, then, to see the, sometimes intense, admiration that many American communists had for men like Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. While contradictory at first, this essay shows the logic behind this admiration, exploring the long history of American communism’s love affair with iconic figures of American history. …

What Fuels Me as a Photographer?
Many photographers don’t realize their ability and opportunity to give back and make a difference. I believe photography extends beyond taking a series of photographs. For me, it is my way of serving others, connecting with people, and sharing their stories. I believe photography is a powerful tool to inspire change in communities—especially in those that are underserved. Photos are visual statements of humanity: an abstract of our failures, ignorance, arrogance, compassion, resilience, progress, and so much more. I want my photography to go beyond a small circle of influence. All of us have …

The Questionable Use Of Electors To Correct Voter Imbalances During The Early Presidential Elections, Marvin L. Simner
The Questionable Use Of Electors To Correct Voter Imbalances During The Early Presidential Elections, Marvin L. Simner
History Publications
During the drafting of the United States Constitution a major dilemma arose over how best to ensure that the smaller states (Delaware, Georgia, New Hampshire) had an equal voice with the larger states (Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia) when the time arrived to elect a chief executive officer for the country as a whole. The dilemma involved an issue that emerged when it became clear that, if left unresolved, the larger states could easily dominate the process though their use of electoral votes. Although a procedure had been proposed that would have properly addressed this issue, it was rejected in favor of …

The Echoes Of The Archives: Unveiling Hidden Gender Narratives At Seton Hall, Pegi Bracaj
Cohort 2023-2024
To tell the story of Miriam Rooney, Bracaj created a three episode podcast entitled “The Echoes of the Archives: Unveiling Hidden Gender Narratives at Seton Hall”. The first episode “delves into the university’s gendered past, from its origins as a male-only institution to its transition to coeducation.” The second episode “explores the often overlooked stories of women within the university’s archives. ” The third and final episode dives deeper into Miriam Rooney herself, uncovering “Rooney’s achievements as the Dean of Seton Hall University School of Law, her academic and professional journey, and her multifaceted contributions to the community.” To supplement …
Reformed And Presbyterian Christians In World War Ii, David Crum
Reformed And Presbyterian Christians In World War Ii, David Crum
Selected Faculty Publications
While World War II challenged the emotions of Americans like never before, firm adherents to Reformed theology and those walking with God knew that the Lord’s will would determine any outcome. Such questions remain essential to discover: How did the war impact Reformed Christians? What role did adherents to Reformed theology play in the war? Did the engagement serve as an evangelistic occasion? This article will present the Second Global Conflict from the lens of Reformed Christians. Some soldiers were faithful Christians; others became believers during the struggle. Similar to today, different denominations within Reformed Christianity existed; this article covers …
