Congressional Consideration Of The Metric System, 1951-1961, Meredith Lynn Kasten

Student Scholarship

The question of whether the United States should adopt the metric system involves a complex evaluation of economic benefits, industrial resistance, and global compatibility. In the early 1960s, legislative efforts in Congress focused on initiating a formal study to determine the feasibility of such a transition. The Lobbying Activities Of The National Education Association, 1959-1961, Jo Ann Dillinger

Student Scholarship

This paper examines the lobbying activities of the National Education Association (NEA) between 1959 and 1961, focusing on the organization's efforts to influence federal legislation regarding public schools. Its primary lobbying methods include providing expert testimony, conducting research for congressional hearings, and mobilizing a grass roots network of state and local chapters to pressure legislators. During this period, the NEA’s core objectives were the improvement of teacher salaries and the expansion of school construction, framed …

Important Developments In The Grand Jury System In Virginia During The Seventeenth And Eighteenth Centuries, Melvin Dean Snead Jan 1962

Important Developments In The Grand Jury System In Virginia During The Seventeenth And Eighteenth Centuries, Melvin Dean Snead

Master's Theses

By March of 1658 tho grand jury system in Virginia was found to be sadly lacking. It had scarcely lasted ten years. Probably the reason for this failure was that the county justices failed to carry out the details of establishing grand juries. It seems to be quite evident that here we had a powerful instrument for aiding in criminal detection, and at the same time an instrument for protecting the innocent. However, it was not used to its best advantage and as a result it …
