First Parish Bridgewater Unitarian Universalist was originally called the South Parish or South Precinct. It was created by an act of the General Court of the Colony of Massachusetts in April, 1716. The actual effective date of incorporation was June 1, 1716. In that period a town and its church were considered one and the same. A resolution calling for support of American Indians as they seek treaty rights and assistance in legal action was adopted at the annual meeting of the Lutheran Human Relations Association of America. Dr. Robert Marshall, President of The Lutheran Church in America and Dr. David Preus, President of the American Lutheran Church were among 27 U.S. religious leaders who have urged Congress to pass the Right-to-Food resolution suggesting that such action "would be a worthy way for the nation to mark its bicentennial."

The Vanguard

Letters to President Gerald Ford from Lutheran leaders - along with those from other church officials - are credited with encouraging the signing into law the Indian Health Improvement Act. The new law will provide $480 million over the next three years.

The House of Representatives had passed the bill 310 to 9 in mid-summer. The Senate later approved the House version of the bill. But the Ford Administration had opposed the legislation from the beginning, primarily because it exceeded proposed budget limitations.

With the help of a $5400 grant from Missouri Synod World Relief, the LHRAA Coordinator Program in St. Paul is ready to begin its "grocery on wheels" project.

The Right to Food Resolution - drafted with the help of Bread for the World - was passed by Congress just before its adjournment. The resolution spent a great deal of time in House and Senate committees, but versions of the resolution were passed by both bodies in late September.

A House-Senate conference committee resolved differences in the two versions, and the resolution then easily passed.

The Gospel Reaching Out newsletter was produced by the Hart County Gospel Music Association which was headquartered in Munfordville, Kentucky. The newsletter contained information and calendars related to “singings” and singing conventions in south central Kentucky, area singing groups, musical trends, and features about collectors, churches and enthusiasts as well as advertisements from sponsors. On September 22, 1949, Shirley Cupp, Irma Beisel, Frances Stuckey and Mr. Hilary Bufton Jr. met in a coffee shop in downtown Kansas City to incorporate the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Jean Fulkerson helped start The Kentucky Colonels Chapter on 3 June 1964 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Twenty-six women met at Western Hills Restaurant and elected Linda Sidebottom as the first president. Besides providing professional development opportunities for local businesswomen, the Chapter gave scholarships to women furthering their education, and held social and recognition events throughout the year. The Carter Family: Traditional Sources For Song, Margaret Bulger

The recorded repertory of the original Carter Family was analyzed for traditional influences. Of the 119 songs examined, it was found that fifty-five, roughly one-fourth of their total repertory, have definite roots in one or more traditional sources. The Carters employed traditional texts within their repertory throughout their professional career. Three genres of song were analyzed: sentimental songs, religious songs, and ballads. Of these, sentimental songs was the largest category with 113 songs. These songs were found to be remarkably similar in thematic content and moral sensibilities to Victorian parlor songs (ca. 1860-1910). The religious songs were shown to be …

This paper will deal with Fortune's economic ideology between 1883 and 1886, early years in a career that would span four decades. It is an attempt to show both the reformist and traditional approaches applied to the problems of his race, approaches that foreshadowed much of black though in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

This collection is composed of the Carder family papers created primarily during WWII. The collection is principally composed of letters sent between various members of the Carder family, chiefly to and from Ancel, during his enlistment as a Marine in WWII. Another bulk portion of the collection is composed of greeting cards mailed for various occasions to Orton and Chloie, remembrance cards that were collected by Orton of his congregation, and religious materials related to marriages and baptisms conducted by Orton as well as his participation in WV Methodist organizational activities for the Fourth Street Church in Huntington.
