A Village Comes To Life: The Interpretation Of Henry Ford's Greenfield Village, Claire E. Herhold

The Hilltop Review

Of all American living history sites, Greenfield Village, in Dearborn, Michigan, is one of the most interesting. Founded by Henry Ford and opened in 1929, Greenfield Village consists of 90 acres of nearly 100 historic buildings, all moved to the site from around the country and reassembled in a vague village formation. Unlike Colonial Williamsburg, the site is not historically significant and represents no one geographic location or time period. Prints from the collection of Bob J. Pfister of photographic negatives from the inventories of the Ruston, Louisiana photographic studios of John Green Davis (1890's-?) and John Green Davis Jr. (?-1943), of the amateur photographers William Marbury (1930's-1940's) and J.E. Woodward (mid-1940's-1971), and of Louisiana Tech University photographer Bob J. Pfister (1950's), including index prepared by Pamela Pfister, who made the prints. Woodward accumulated the collection, which was given at his death to Pfister (some are photocopies). Prints funded by Ruston Building and Loan Association, President Benjamin Denny, in honor of the centennial of Louisiana Tech University, 1894-1994
