Diplomacy - Rio Grande 1842 - 1848, Frances Sohein Jones

Theses

The Mexican War was not waged for the purpose of acquiring Texas by force since Texas had become a part of the United States after having won her independence. The Mexican war was fought for this reason and not for that so often given that the United States instigated it because of a lust for additional territory. Mexico, thought refusing to recognize this independence, accepted the inevitable, but did not consider the strip of land between the Nueces and the Rio Grande rivers as Texas territory.

Italian Fascism, Elmer A. Plischke Jun 1937

Italian Fascism, Elmer A. Plischke

Bachelors’ Theses

We choose Italy for our study, because she is the mother of this phenomenon -- Fascism having originated in Italy -- and because Fascism received its name by and from that country. Wherever necessary, we will, for the purpose of elucidation, make allusions to and draw comparisons with the forms of Fascism existing in other countries. The purpose of this paper, then, is to make a searching inquiry into the institutions of the Italy of today as compared with the pre-Fascist Italy, so that we will be enabled to determine the true nature of Fascism.

The Presidential Campaign Of 1936, Mason A. Johnston

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

However, for the purpose of this thesis the presidential campaign of 1936 began with the June nominating conventions. At those times the candidates were selected. (Although there was never any doubt as to whom the Democrats would choose.) After the conventions the public had its first opportunity to weigh one nominee against the other. The conventions were the first big political shows. They also offered the country the official platforms upon the principles of which the candidates were supposed to stand. In short, with the conventions the big fight was on.

Amos Kendall In Kentucky, Kenneth Lam Aug 1936

Amos Kendall In Kentucky, Kenneth Lam

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

In the writing of this thesis, I have endeavored chiefly to depict the character and public works of Amos Kendall in Kentucky. In so doing, it has been my purpose to give the reader some conception of the important political questions of the time and the relation of Kendall to them. His life was one of bitter controversies, of humiliating defeats followed by brilliant victories, and toward the end, one of peace vitalized by the promotion of worthwhile public institutions. His place in history, whether good or bad, has been little understood or appreciated; and it is my sincere desire …

Young Ewing Allison, Mary Shutt Aug 1936

Young Ewing Allison, Mary Shutt

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Probably no other period in American history has been more productive of romance, strife, bravery, aggressiveness, and conflicting ideas of thought than the period from 1850 to 1865.

One who was fortunate enough to be born in the early years of that period, would have been old enough by 1865 for those various experiences to have branded his future life. Young E. Allison was so fortunate. He was born in Henderson, Kentucky, on December 23, 1853 and was named after his father, who was county judge and county clerk.

Kentucky In The Election Of 1896, John Dickey Aug 1936

Kentucky In The Election Of 1896, John Dickey

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The story of the election of 1896 and the part played by Kentucky in that great conflict offers no parallel, so far as interest in a national election is concerned, in the annals of the political history of the state. Perhaps in no other nationwide campaign did both Kentucky's leaders and her citizenry as well take such an active and intensive part. State and national leaders were extolled on the one hand, and degraded on the other. Party principles were invoked to bear witness to the truth by one group, and condemned as the diabolical instruments of the money power …

The French Revolution And Its Effect On 18th Century Europe, Ralph Renzel Apr 1936

The French Revolution And Its Effect On 18th Century Europe, Ralph Renzel

Bachelors’ Theses

The France of the old regime was a very great and ancient structure -in building which fifty generations had been engaged for more than fifteen centuries. Each of these generations had left its mark upon it, always adding to the work of the past and hardly ever pulling down or removing anything. Moreover, its plan was confused, its styles were incongruous, and its parts lacked proportion. Some portions had been abandoned and threatened to fall into ruin; others were inconvenient; others were too luxurious. But, taking it all in all, the total effect was rich, the facade was imposing, and …
