The increase of city expenditures was noticeable for the past two decades. During the depression there arose a greater demand on the part of both tax payers and city officials for some information concerning the costs of city government, what was responsible for the increase, for what municipal funds were expended, and where the cost of city government was headed.

The question of how expenditures in certain departments compared with those of other departments was also a pertinent one. Education suffered an enormous reduction as compared to what had been spent from 1928 to 1932. There was a wide-spread belief …

It is the purpose of this study to examine the early state-chartered banks of Kentucky: their creation, career and dissolution. To do this it will be necessary to survey the period of Kentucky history from 1802, when the Kentucky Insurance Company was awarded its charter by the Legislature and granted banking powers, to about 1830, when all previously chartered state banks had become non-existent or were in the process of liquidation. Throughout this period it will be necessary to notice the major political trends, events and problems. These, however, will be of secondary importance, and attention primarily will be centered …

The writer chose this subject because he felt that the messages and speeches reflect their attitude toward education and to some extent at least reflect the national attitude. Since this group has included some of America’s ablest leaders, education may find in their works arguments of great weight.

This paper offers an interpretation of Soviet Russia, based upon several weeks of direct observation and investigation conducted in the summer of 1932. The Soviet Union presents itself as a colossal experiment in recasting human society along Marxian lines. The following pages examine both the philosophical underpinnings of Communism and the visible outworking of this revolutionary transformation. Impressive industrial centers reflect a Planned Economy of great ambition, yet marred by shortages, inefficiencies, and a reliance upon capitalistic methods such as piecework and wage incentives. This treaty, between the United States government and the Sioux and Arapaho Nations, established the Great Sioux Reservation, promised the Sioux would own the Black Hills in perpetuity, and set aside the country north of the North Platte River and east of the summits of the Big Horn Mountains as unceded Indian territory. This 1904 reprint of President Rutherford B. Hayes’s 1880 Executive Order was transcribed and published in vol. I of Charles Kappler’s Indian Affairs. Laws and Treaties. Originally issued on July 13, 1880, President Hayes’s Executive Order significantly reduced the size of the Fort Berthold Reservation. Created at the behest of the Northern Pacific Railroad, this executive order resulted in a considerable loss of Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara homelands, hunting grounds, and sacred sites.
