This paper discusses the use of interactive elements in museums that deal with difficult subject matter, such as war or genocide. This research involves interviews with museum personnel at the Columbus Museum in Columbus, Georgia, the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, Georgia, the Museum of History and Holocaust Education in Kennesaw, Georgia, and the World War II Home Front Museum in St. Simons Island, Georgia. This research also discusses the design of a potential exhibit using interactives about women in the resistance movement during Nazi occupation.

"Th e German conquest of Poland in the fall of 1939 unleashed the full horror of Nazi racial ideals that saw the gradual evolution of policies that ultimately led to the mass murder of 90 percent of prewar Poland’s 3.3–3.5 million Jews. In his biography of SS Obergruppenführer Werner Best, the German historian Ulrich Herbert coined the phrase Ausgrenzung in den Wohlstand, or "exclusion into prosperity." According to Herbert, "for those excluded from politics and public service, there remained the liberal professions and business, mostly provided by old contacts, some dating from their student days.” Yet there are few studies on the postwar professional lives of former high-ranking Nazis and SS officers.
