The object of these rules, instructions and data is to make all tractor demonstrations of this kind comparable and of the greatest educational value. Anyone who has conducted tractor demonstrations in the past has realized the necessity of some standard rules to follow and those who afterwards have referred to the results, deplore the lack of uniformity in the demonstrations and the data. For those who have not had this experience will find that it is a great help to have satisfactory rules to follow.

Sepia postcard from 1918 with image of the Southwestern Osteopathic Sanitarium in Blackwell, Oklahoma. The Sanitarium was established in 1912 and moved to the building pictured in 1915.

George J. Conley was President of the Board of Control and Surgeon-in-Chief from 1914-1924. Dr. Conley would later be one of the founders and the first President of the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery (now Kansas City University). In 1924 the institution moved to Wichita, Kansas.

Historical Postcards (1908-2007)

Postcard shows a 1917 color rendering of Wesley Hospital at 11th and Harrison Streets in Kansas City, Missouri. Built in 1915 by Dr. Archie Robertson, it was taken over by the United States War Department in 1943.

In 1944 the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery (now Kansas City University) purchased the hospital and renamed it Osteopathic Hospital. It was used as a teaching hospital until its closing in 1972 when the University opened the Center for Health Sciences, later known as University Hospital.

William Osler’S 1914 Introductory Address To The Jefferson Medical College, William Osler

Historical Addresses

In 1914 Professor Thomas McCrae asked Sir William Osler to deliver the introductory address to the 90th annual session of the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia. However, Osler was unable to come because of war conditions in England. He sent this typed letter with handwritten corrections to be read in his place. Because it arrived a day letter, the students published it in The Jeffersonian. This manuscript was presented to the Jefferson archives by Mrs. McCrae on May 21, 1926 after her husband’s death.
