The Colonelette

On September 22, 1949, Shirley Cupp, Irma Beisel, Frances Stuckey and Mr. Hilary Bufton Jr. met in a coffee shop in downtown Kansas City to incorporate the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Jean Fulkerson helped start The Kentucky Colonels Chapter on 3 June 1964 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Twenty-six women met at Western Hills Restaurant and elected Linda Sidebottom as the first president. Besides providing professional development opportunities for local businesswomen, the Chapter gave scholarships to women furthering their education, and held social and recognition events throughout the year. Their newsletter, “The Colonelette,” was started in June 1964. Also included …

The Removal Of The Winnebago Indians From Wisconsin In 1873-74, Lawrence W. Onsager

The Winnebago are a Siouan-speaking tribe which historically occupied eastern and southern Wisconsin. This thesis uses their culture and history as a background for telling the story of the removal of the Wisconsin remnant in 1873-74. This non-treaty-abiding faction of the tribe was forcibly taken to Nebraska where the treaty-abiding faction had a reservation.

The Wisconsin Winnebago had four reasons for resisting removal. 1) Based on their experience with prior removals, they knew that many of their children and elderly would die. 2) They feared attack by the western Sioux. 3) As woodland Indians, the Winnebago considered Wisconsin to be …

On September 22, 1949, Shirley Cupp, Irma Beisel, Frances Stuckey and Mr. Hilary Bufton Jr. met in a coffee shop in downtown Kansas City to incorporate the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Jean Fulkerson helped start The Kentucky Colonels Chapter on 3 June 1964 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Twenty-six women met at Western Hills Restaurant and elected Linda Sidebottom as the first president. The Oneida Community: Its Apologists And Its Critics, Nancy C. Morris

Institute for the Humanities Theses

This thesis examines the historical literature regarding the Oneida Community (1848-81) from the society's conceptual beginnings in the 1830s to the present time. After an overview of the antebellum communitarian movement in the United States, a detailed description of the Oneida Community, one of America's most prominent nineteenth-century utopian experiments, is presented.

Chapters III, IV, and V survey the body of literature pertinent to the Oneida Community and its founder and spiritual leader, John Humphrey Noyes, over the last 145 years. The writings of the Oneida apologists, a majority of whom were Oneida Community family members and their descendants, are …

It has become increasingly important that we reflect about professional athletes and the public's perception of their role in society. I would like to take a subjective, biographical look at four dominant athletes who influenced American civilization during our two Golden Ages of Sport, namely, the 1920s and the late 1960s-1970s.
