Black Gold, White Gold, And The Bear's Influence Over Central Asian Economies, Jennifer Leo

University Honors Theses

In examining the socioeconomic state of former Soviet republics in Central Asia, it becomes clear that the current economies of nations such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan have been shaped by a history of Russian dominance, followed by turbulent developments that took place during the "perestroika" and post-independence period. These periods were marked by significant changes in governance which allowed Central Asian nations to gain inclusion in the global economy, forge partnerships with economically thriving world superpowers (US and China), and emerge from the Soviet system of mono-product economies. As a result of such developments, former republics of the Soviet …

I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my classmates, Henry Hamal regarding his experience during the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was interesting to note that this event had a shunting effect on Henry’s emotional development, as he noted in his interview. Portuguese Tourist Guides And The Digital Age, Ilidia Carvalho

International Journal of Tour Guiding and Visitor Attraction Research

Many of these professionals seem to have certain limitations in terms of using new technologies, since many of those, working today, were not born in the digital age. They have been obliged to accept these technologies and sometimes tend to look at these new ways of communicating in a sceptical way, mainly because they do not properly know how to use them. A UNESCO world heritage site since 1983, the Taj Mahal, located in the city of Agra in India is an important contributor to tourism in India. In the year 2018 alone, approximately 280 million tourists visited the monument. However, the popularity of the site has several negative impacts such as yellowing of the structure, pollution and overcrowding which endangers this built cultural heritage. Due to this, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which is the national authority entrusted with managing heritage sites, has initiated steps to check overcrowding in the Taj Mahal. One of the widely adopted strategies is demarketing. …

Planting Defamation In Arkansas: A Legal Historical Analysis Of The Development Of Defamation Laws In Arkansas During The 19th Century, Jessica Michelle Beel

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis analyzes the early defamation laws in Arkansas by the constitutions of Arkansas, the laws of Arkansas from 1812 to 1874, and Arkansas case law from 1812 to 1874 as concerning defamation, libel, and slander. This research shows how defamation, libel, and slander developed in Arkansas from early territorial periods to the end of the Reconstruction period. These laws were the foundations and the precedent for today’s defamation statutory and case laws in Arkansas, without these laws, it may be argued that defamation in Arkansas would have been decades behind the American legal system. This research advocates for the …

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis examines the extremist group, MOVE and its founder Vincent Leaphart (a.k.a John Africa) in the context of Revolutionary Black humanism, rather than simply a footnote in the tragic events of May 13, 1985. it explores MOVE's predecessors in the Black Panther movement, including The Black Panther Party and how these organizations and individuals might have influenced MOVE and their aims. In addition, ample examination is given to the role that systemic police brutality and racism, specifically within the Philadelphia Police department and city government played in the decisions that MOVE made as they attempted to create a community …
