St. Louis Ix, Arthur J. King
St. Louis Ix, Arthur J. King
Bachelors’ Theses
Louis IX was born on April 25th, in the year 1215. He was the grandson of Philip Augustus and the son of Louis VIII and Blanche of Castile. Thus we have the Capetian blood coursing in his veins, endowing him with bravery and fearlessness. Louis* father inherited the throne of France from Philip Augustus and ruled for a scant three years before death claimed him. Louis VIII carried on the policies of his predecessor. Under their reigns, royal power grew, colleges, schools and churches were built; the nobles were humbled and the royal domain increased. In fact some historians credit …

Charlemagne, Josephine Jonas
Charlemagne, Josephine Jonas
Bachelors’ Theses
In the following pages, I have tried to give some idea of Charlemagne's personality and influence upon European history. No other person means so much in so many ways to the modern world as Charlemagne. Of the four great warriors and conquerors that European history celebrates, Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and Napoleon, it is the chief glory of Charlemagne that he was conspicuously the organizer, the civilizer, the father of governmental organizations and methods as we know them now.
Compromises In The Constitution Of The United States, Katherine M. Poborsky
Compromises In The Constitution Of The United States, Katherine M. Poborsky
Bachelors’ Theses
The purpose of this thesis is not to discuss every compromise in the Constitution of the United States, but to present the four greatest compromises contained in that great document. These four compromises were selected because they are typical of the differences and disputes that occurred in the Constitutional Convention which met in Philadelphia in 1787. Following an introduction on the Articles of Confederation and the calling of the Constitutional Convention, the tour compromises will be discussed in their order: The Great Compromise; Compromises on Direct Taxation, Regulation of Commerce and the Election o! the President. The ratification of the …
Theodore Roosevelt In The Carribbean, Varena A. Stuessy
Theodore Roosevelt In The Carribbean, Varena A. Stuessy
Bachelors’ Theses
It is the purpose of the author to discuss the subject of imperialism during the administration of Theodore Roosevelt. The period from 1898 to 1908 was one of the most perilous in American diplomacy. As a result of the Spanish-American War in 1898, the United States emerged as a World Power and was called upon to aid in the settlement of questions of world interest. The United States, moreover, had acquired possessions in the Caribbean and assumed the duties of a protector and administrator over the affairs of certain islands in the Caribbean and of certain Republics bordering on that …
The Negro Vote In The South From 1865-1877, Marie H. Schmid
The Negro Vote In The South From 1865-1877, Marie H. Schmid
Bachelors’ Theses
On January 31, 1865 the proposed Thirteenth Amendment abolishing slavery passed the House by the necessary two-thirds majority. Since slavery had already been practically abolished, the measure attracted no great attention. Under the thirteenth amendment, more than three millions of emancipated slaves found themselves at liberty to establish themselves in this Union wherever they might choose to seek a living.
The Overland Trail, Wenonah J. Eis
The Overland Trail, Wenonah J. Eis
Bachelors’ Theses
Being interested in the development of the Western part of the United States I desired to acquaint myself further with those highways of travel which helped so much in this development. This paper attempts to give an account of the various trails used in settling the fest, their routes, their histories, their travelers, their relative importance, their direct connection with development, the play of circumstances on these highways and these paths as predecessors of the railroads.
Constantine The Great, Helen M. Heidgen
Constantine The Great, Helen M. Heidgen
Bachelors’ Theses
For over two hundred years the Christians had been a hunted and persecuted sect. The efforts of one man gave these people a new status before the law and their fellow beings. With Constantine began the enthronement of Christianity, and for one thousand years what is most vital in European history is connected with Christian institutions and doctrines. If not the greatest, Constantine was one of the greatest, of all the absolute monarchs who controlled the destinies of over one hundred millions of subjects. It is with the man and his work for mankind that my thesis deals.
Catholicism In England Under Queen Elizabeth: 1558-1603, William F. Tiernan
Catholicism In England Under Queen Elizabeth: 1558-1603, William F. Tiernan
Bachelors’ Theses
One of the great periods in English History is the reign of Queen Elizabeth. The name of Queen Elizabeth, or of "Good Queen Bess" as her people called her, is held in high esteem by Englishmen. It is true that Elizabeth did many things which appear to us cruel and harsh, and that she can be fairly charged with being unjust and even tyrannical. More than once she used her power and her high position to injure those of whom she was jealous or those whom she feared. But when all that can be said against Queen Elizabeth has been uttered, …
