Maine History & Policy Development
Unlike forty years ago, none of us is now certain what the future holds for Maine – except that it will be different. Maine has been transformed by the events of the recent decades. We have come into a new world, a new time – a new historical era, if you will. This new era, like previous eras in Maine history, will require of us new ways of thinking, new ways of understanding, new ways of organizing ourselves as a community of people, if the values and culture we share and cherish are to endure and flourish.

The Beaten Path: A Cartographical And Historical Study Of The Southwest Trail In Clark County, Arkansas, Clinton R. Pumphrey
The Beaten Path: A Cartographical And Historical Study Of The Southwest Trail In Clark County, Arkansas, Clinton R. Pumphrey
Honors Theses
A road, taken on its own merit, may seem of little importance or significance in a history rich with riveting events and fascinating people. The monotony of travel is much more likely to prompt the question "are we there yet?" than one about a road's historical relevance. Most travelers simply do not have any interest in a road itself, but rather the points of interest that it serves to connect. Yet in the rush to move from place to place, people easily forget that the passage a road makes possible and the traffic it carries make the road just as …
A Cultural Resource Investigation Of Two Louisiana-Pacific Corporation Parcels, Susie Van Kirk
A Cultural Resource Investigation Of Two Louisiana-Pacific Corporation Parcels, Susie Van Kirk
Susie Van Kirk Papers
During the month of October, November, and December 1996, a Cultural Resources Investigation was conducted on two Louisiana-Pacific Corporation parcels located at Big Lagoon, Humboldt County, California (see Map 1). The survey was requested by Jamie Heltsley of Ron Hunt Surveying & Forestry, Arcata, California. Proposed project plans include the combining of four separate assessors parcels into two assessor's parcels.
The purposes of this investigation were to (1) locate and record project area cultural resources; (2) to evaluate the significance of study area cultural resources; (3) to assess potential impacts to cultural resources resulting from project related operations; (4) to …
Civilizing The Civil Engineer: How A History Course Can Serve As A Curriculum Capstone, John Alfred Heitmann
Civilizing The Civil Engineer: How A History Course Can Serve As A Curriculum Capstone, John Alfred Heitmann
History Faculty Publications
Beginning in 1989 and then every other year thereafter, a unique course dealing specifically with the history of civil engineering has been taught to all civil engineering majors at the University of Dayton. What has evolved over time -- in response to student feedback, ongoing reform in the curriculum, and a maturing of faculty expertise -- is a course in the history of civilization that has as its major focus the discipline of civil engineering.
In reality, what happens in the classroom is a far broader learning experience than either the disciplines of history or civil engineering could provide standing …

History Of Utah's Salt Industry 1847-1970, John L. Clark
History Of Utah's Salt Industry 1847-1970, John L. Clark
Theses and Dissertations
Utah salt makers have extracted salt from three sources, the principal of these being brine from Great Salt Lake. Other sources are saline beds in Great Salt Lake Desert and subterranean halite formations in central Utah.
This study traces the development of methods used to recover and refine salt by the industry, in general, and by specific companies. It provides brief, historical sketches of the major corporations and the economic, legal, and environmental factors affecting their growth.
Utah produces about 1 per cent of the nation's salt, exporting over half of it from the state. The major factors limiting the …
