In September 2025, a trial excavation was conducted on Highway 40 (Permit No. A-10140; map ref. 174894-9185/518274-31301; Fig. 1), within preparation for the construction of passing bays. The excavation, conducted on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by Netivei Israel, was directed by N. Lary, with the assistance of T. Sapir (photography, field director), Y. Alamor (administration), A. Montagu (GPS, plans, and model), D. Varga (pottery), D. Degen-Eisenberg (consultant), S. Talis, G. Seriy, I. Radashkovsky, and A. Fashion however has for generations drawn inspiration from one of the very things that defines culture and that is art. Some of the most successful fashion designers of our time have drawn inspiration directly from masterpieces of art. The Spanish fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895-1972) was heavily inspired by his countrymen including Diego Velázquez (1599-1660), Francisco de Zurbarán (1598-1664), and Francisco Goya (1746-1828). A study of four coins from 620 to 680 AD provides a meager yet insightful glimpse into the coinage minted by Islamic rulers during their conquest over the Holy Land and the transition of rule from the Byzantine Empire to the Islamic Caliphate. With the help of an innovative technology called Reflective Transference Image (RTI), on loan from USC, I created high-resolution images that can be adjusted with respect to light and reflectivity. Creating RTI images of the coins administers a deeper alternate perspective giving light to aspects of the coin that cannot be seen by the naked eye. Using …

In 2002 and 2003, excavations were conducted at a 5.5 dunams plot between Ha-Tayassim Road and Tslilei Hanina Street (Permit Nos. A-3764, A-4683; map ref. 182517-58/661650-81), under the direction of Giora Parnos. The site is located on a natural hill approximately 30 meters above sea level, on the third kurkar ridge of the central coastal plain. It is surrounded by fertile soil and lies near the main road connecting Jaffa and Jerusalem.

No diagnostic finds were recovered.

The remains of walls built of ashlar stones and two floors that were dated to the Early Islamic period were exposed. Based on the information in the excavation file, coins, glass and pottery dating to the Byzantine period were found.

In 1954, a trial excavation was conducted in Tel Kinrot (map ref. 2504/7523), north and south of the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fish. The excavation was directed by B. Ravni. North of the church, only an aqueduct was found. South of the church, an aqueduct and a canal were discovered, as well as walls that were associated with two stages of the church and walls of later periods. The remains were date to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods.

In 1954, a trial excavation was conducted at the Qiryat Ha-Yovel neighborhood in Jerusalem (map ref. 2168/6301), following the discovery of pottery and a lamp during the digging of pits in a private yard. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by L.Y. Rahmani. Two perpendicular walls were exposed, that were built of hard lime stones and nari (calcrete). Pottery was found at the foot of one of the walls, most of which was dated to the Byzantine period and a few to the Roman period.

In March 1953 a trial excavation was conducted at Tel Kinrot, about 10 km north of Tiberius (map ref. 2504/7523), following the digging of trenches for a water pipeline. The excavation was directed by B. Ravni, with the assistance of Y. Huri (plans). The remains of a bathhouse were discovered c. 200 m north of the Umayyad palace in Horbat al-Minya.

In 1953, an excavation was conducted near Tel Iztabba in Bet She'an (map ref. unknown), under the direction of N. Zori. Based on the plans and photographs in the excavation file, a mosaic floor decorated with geometric patterns was found c. 250 m west of the Kiri Maria monastery, adjacent to the route of the Roman–Byzantine wall of Bet She'an. Near the floor was a mausoleum and a coffin inside which were bones and skulls.
