U.S. Government operations between 1940-1950 brought unprecedented direct and indirect employment opportunities to San Diego, exacerbating an already growing housing shortage. To accommodate the thousands of new defense workers, the government produced the largest defense housing project to date in the small neighborhood of Linda Vista. However, this opportunity and largesse was extended primarily to a select group of white working-class families who had access to defense jobs and, consequently, subsidized housing. Military presence in San Diego during World War II shaped the design of homes and exclusively allocated housing, as both shelter and financial instrument, to white working-class families …

Along with a biographical study, a selective analysis of the over 90 flower paintings is conducted through historical, comparative, and analytical investigations. The hegemonic values that were represented in 1960s mass media were heavily reinforced by the Pop Art movement. Male Pop artists have often been viewed as genius, while the women were pushed aside to reside within the margins of the Pop canon. This thesis emphasizes the work of four female artists who participated in the Pop Art movement and were largely overlooked throughout Pop’s discourse. Las figurillas del periodo Formativo (2300 a.C.-100 d.C.), de la Cuenca de México, modeladas en barro, antropomorfas y sólidas, se distinguen por ser representaciones realistas, y al parecer, algunas de ellas son versiones a escala que muestran personajes, es decir, son pequeñas esculturas inspiradas en algunos miembros de la comunidad que se destacan por sus atributos o parafernalia. Estos atributos son indicadores de un claro reconocimiento de diferenciación social, asociados con personajes que desempeñaban roles específicos dentro de la sociedad y que, al parecer, son recreaciones de jugadores de pelota.

(En) Rare evidences were found for the Cat King (789-784 B.C) who is variously spelled as, Pami, Pemu , or Pamiu. There is a misconception transcription of his name as Pimay (PA-mAi) which means a lion. The term was used by past historians based on the misreading of a small statuary group (CG 9430).
