29 | Gamla I: The Pottery Of The Second Temple Period, The Shmarya Guttman Excavations, 1976–1989, Andrea M. Berlin
IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority
This is the first of a series of volumes publishing the results of the excavations of the late Shmarya Gutmann at Gamla. Gamla is located on a high, precipitous rocky spur in the southern Golan Heights. It is the best preserved and most extensively excavated Jewish site of the late Second Temple period in northern Israel. Settlement came to an end in 67 CE, and the site was never resettled. This first volume presents an in-depth study of the pottery assemblages from the Hellenistic and Roman periods, which reflect all the many and varied aspects of every-day life at the …

European Spatial Development, The Polycentric Eu Capital, And Eastern Enlargement, Carola Hein
Growth and Structure of Cities Faculty Research and Scholarship
Over five decades a new decentralized model for the European capital city has emerged through the distribution of European Union (EU) institutions and agencies, but as the result of national compromise and competition rather than the implementation of a vision of Europe. More than a purely administrative issue, the location of EU headquarters opens questions on the nature of European spatiality, the relation between politics and space and the role of headquarters cities in that space. To date, the decentralized unplanned structure has brought economic and symbolic benefits to the host cities and nations, but has also caused—notably in Brussels—the …

Rome In The Twelfth Century: Urbs Fracta And Renovatio, Dale Kinney
History of Art Faculty Research and Scholarship
Richard Krautheimer's grand synthesis of the history of art, architecture, and politics in medieval Rome has inspired a generation of subsequent publications, including revisionist ones. Focusing on the twelfth century, this essay rereads Krautheimer against a semiotic paradigm proposed by Marvin Trachtenberg and an alternative version of the history offered by Peter Cornelius Claussen, supplementing both with socio-historical, archaeological, and art historical research of the last twenty-five years. The result is a more reception-oriented history that highlights social and political diversity within Rome and possible misreadings of the intended messages of the familiar churches built between 1100 and 1143: San …

IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority
This is the final report of the IAA salvage excavations at the tell during 1994–1995, which revealed occupation strata from EB I–EB III and the Hellenistic period. Classification And Nomenclature Of Beads And Pendants, Horace C. Beck
Classification And Nomenclature Of Beads And Pendants, Horace C. Beck
BEADS: Journal of the Society of Bead Researchers
The year 2006 marks the 80th anniversary of the presentation of a "Classification and Nomenclature of Beads and Pendants" by Horace C. Beck to the Society of Antiquaries of London in 1926. It was subsequently published in the society's journal Archaeologia in 1928 (vol. 77, pp. 1-76). While it is somewhat out of date, it nevertheless remains a classic in its field and is still the only comprehensive work that deals with the classification of beads of complex shapes and forms. Seeing the value of this work, George Shumway reprinted it in 1973. This edition is now out of print. …

Judith Dinham: An Artistic Journey, Judith Dinham
Research outputs pre 2011
STUDENTS AND TEACHERS of secondary and tertiary visual arts studies will find this book of immense value. It is a unique resource in that it brings together, in a single work, a wide variety of primary texts focused on a single artist. To gather such a diverse range of material on any single artist would require months of research. The book serves multiple functions: it is at one level a history of a very fine artist, Judith Dinham, in another sense it is a history of a period of the development of a specific research trajectory. It maps the artist's …
