In November 1974, a salvage excavation was conducted in Ibedis, north-east of Kibbutz Negba (map ref. 1706/6209), following the discovery of a tomb on agricultural land. The tomb’s ceiling was destroyed by the Agricultural implements. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by D. Meiron, with the assistance of members of Negba and a youth group from the U.S.A.

In 1972, an excavation was conducted in the ancient cemetery of Qanat al-Ja'ar (north of Ein Hanatziv; map ref. 247/709), under the direction of D. Bahat. In the excavation, and in those that preceded it, three types of tombs were exposed. The finds in the tombs included many pottery vessels, bronze vessels, glass vessels, weapons including a spear and a knife, cosmetics vessels, a mirror, a fibula pin, and jewellery.

In 1971 an excavation was conducted in ‘Akko, in the area of the new post office near the corner of the streets Ben Ami and Yehoshafat (map ref. 2076/7590. The excavation, under the direction of A. Oren, was carried out following the discovery of the building remains during the construction of the post office building. The excavator believed the building that was exposed was a public building, possibly a temple, that was dated to the Hellenistic period.
