Agency And Political Engagement In Gide And Barrault's Post-War Theatrical Adaptation Of Kafka's The Trial, Yevgenya Strakovsky

In her article, "Agency and Political Engagement in Gide and Barrault's Post-war Theatrical Adaptation of Kafka's The Trial" Yevgenya Strakovsky considers the political themes of André Gide and Jean-Louis Barrault's Le Procès (The Trial, 1947), the first theatrical adaptation of Franz Kafka's Der Prozess (The Trial, 1914). Strakovsky demonstrates that Le Procès, written and staged in the immediate aftermath of World War II, levels a critique against the passive complicity of citizens in unjust persecution in both its script and its staging. An Artist As Soldier: Seeking Refuge In Love And Art, Barbara S. Heisler

At the center of this book are the World War II letters (Feldpostbriefe) of a German artist and art teacher to his wife. While Bernhard Epple’s letters to his wife, Gudrun, address many of the topics usually found in war letters (food, lodging conditions, the weather, problems with the mail service, requests for favors from home), they are unusual in two respects. Each letter is lovingly decorated with a drawing and the letters make few references to the war itself. Using Digital Commons To Highlight A Digital Collection: The Adventures Of Sophie, Rebecca Mckown
Digital Initiatives Symposium
This poster will detail the experience of migrating the Sophie Digital Collection of Literary Works by German-Speaking Women from a website into an interactive site on Digital Commons by the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University. The Sophie Project is named for Sophie von LaRoche and includes poetry, fiction, drama and film, song and music composition, essays, nonfiction writings and biographies all in native German language. It will highlight the structure built within Digital Commons to exhibit the richness of the content in the Sophie Collection and the interactive linking within the metadata fields.
