Literary Skinheads? Writing From The Right In Reunified Germany, Jay Julian Rosellini
Literary Skinheads? Writing From The Right In Reunified Germany, Jay Julian Rosellini
Purdue University Press Books
"Literary Skinheads? is a very nuanced, meticulously researched and vividly written study of a series of important debates in German literary circles since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the rapid political transformations that have accompanied German unification. No other book in the English-speaking world offers such a comprehensive survey of the legacy of radical conservative ideas in German political life. Rosellini not only offers trenchant interpretations of major political controversies of the last decade in Germany, but he also provides the necessary background information needed to make sense of these important public debates." Elliott Neaman, author of …

Notes On David Krell’S The Good European, David B. Allison
Research Resources
So many things come together so beautifully in The Good European, it is hard
to imagine not being moved by it. I discuss what kind of book this is and, more specifically, try to explain, in some detail, just how this work is able to achieve the remarkably performative effect that it has on the reader — at least on this reader. At the outset, it should be said that The Good European is an oversized, illustrated book — a well-known genre — although it is quite unusual to find an example of such work devoted to the life …

TEAMS Medieval German Texts in Bilingual Editions
These texts will be of interest because they represent a kind of writing - at the intersection of ecclesiastical and secular power, drawing on the whole range of medieval Latin learning, yet written in vernacular verse - that is not found elsewhere in the European Middle Ages. In addition, they may be of use in teaching since, although relatively short, they illustrate a great number of characteristic medieval ways of writing and can be linked to a number of quite remarkable historical figures.

Nietzsche And Eros Between The Devil And God’S Deep Blue Sea: The Problem Of The Artist As Actor–Jew–Woman, Babette Babich
Articles and Chapters in Academic Book Collections
In just one aphorism in The Gay Science, Nietzsche arrays “The Problem of the Artist” in a complex, highly reticulated constellation. Addressing every member of the excluded grouping of disenfranchised “others,” Nietzsche turns to the destitution of a god of love keyed to the self- or inward-turning absorption of the human heart. His ultimate and irrecusably tragic project to restore the innocence of becoming requires the affirmation of the problem of suffering as the task of learning how to love. Nietzsche sees the eros of art as what can teach us how to make things beautiful, desirable, lovable in the …

Technical texts, i.e., technical literature proper (data sheets, user documentation, scientific publications, etc.), as well as the whole range of medical and legal texts, have one feature in common: Their authors make generous use of: a) words not in common usage, e.g., dongle (a computer hardware device that prevents unauthorized use of protected software); and/or b) words that are in common usage but have a slightly, or even totally, different meaning in the special language, e.g., bug (in the general sense, this means a small insect, but in the computer software field, this is a small defect in the code …
Ingeborg Bachmann And Christa Wolf: Selected Prose And Drama (Book Review), Kathrin M. Bower
Ingeborg Bachmann And Christa Wolf: Selected Prose And Drama (Book Review), Kathrin M. Bower
Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Faculty Publications
As I read through the selections in Ingeborg Bachmann and Christa Wolf: Selected Prose and Drama I was reminded of the many associations and connections between the two writers that I had found so profound during my graduate school years. While works by Bachmann and Wolf have been translated and are available in English, this is the first volume to juxtapose their writings with the express purpose of highlighting the parallels between them. The editor's introduction seeks to situate the oeuvres of both authors in historical and political context and offers justification for placing the two together in one volume. …
