This thesis studies the political discussions, practices, and projects that emerged through mutual aid Facebook groups based in France and the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic. Of particular interest is how these online spaces and the Facebook users that comprised them understood their mutual aid organizing in relationship to specific themes, including but not limited to: the COVID-19 pandemic as a "crisis", the role of government presence or absence in the wellbeing of the public, and the concept of collective yet differentiated struggle. This thesis explores the relationship between gendered-languages and mental perceptions of gender. Compiling various studies that evidence a strong link between gendered language and gender bias, the research creates a framework for discussing the potential gender-equalizing effects of gender-fair language. The paper focuses on the conversation concerning gendered language in France, especially discussing the role of the French Academy in establishing and legitimizing language practices.

Ousmane Sembène is one of the French-speaking South Saharan African directors who has been the most prolific, but also, with Idrissa Ouédraogo, the one who has been the most broadcast in French cinemas during his lifetime. Although many of his films were favorably received by critics, they met with very little enthusiasm among French viewers, its recognition by certain cinematic circles and its aesthetic aura being thus incomparable with its commercial success. The analysis points to Ousmane Sembène’s real strategy, which adopted a strategy of international recognition by festivals, not by foreign audiences.

The purpose of this study was to examine how varying demographics among French and American populations responded to three types of frames used by animal rights organizations: ethical, environmental, and health related. A two by three experimental design in which participants saw two images corresponding to one of the three frames was distributed. The survey measured each respondent’s political opinions, emotional response, and behavioral response through self-designed scales. The study finds that culture and political ideologies play a significant role in influencing frame response, such that the French respondents were more emotionally and behaviorally influenced than Americans, and that liberals …

Looking outside canonical late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century modernist images of the French Atlantic coast, this essay examines usually discrete fields of landscape painting, botanical visual culture and nascent intertidal natural history to articulate an ecological realism of the ecotone. In a survey of peasant gleaning practices, popular natural science of the shore as well as amateur marine botany, the ecological visual literacy of viewers of this era is speculatively assembled. The purpose of this research was to gain information on Robert Schumann and trace themes of nature within his Liederkreis Op. 39. The specific problems of this study were as follows: 1.) to analyze the lieder of Schumann’s Liederkreis Op. 39 in terms of form; 2.) to identify and trace the themes of nature in Liederkreis Op. 39; and 3.) to identify how these themes are found in both the music and poetry of Liederkreis Op. 39. Marguerite Durand évoque dans ce texte Edouard Drumont et son journal antisémite La libre parole, les causes de l’antisémitisme de la fin du 19e siècle, l’affaire Dreyfus, en particulier du point de vue de la journaliste Séverine, qui assista avec la directrice de La Fronde au procès en révision à Rennes en 1899. Le texte porte aussi sur l’interview que Séverine fit du pape Léon XIII en 1892, « restée célèbre dans les annales du journalisme ».

Il existe deux versions de ce texte dans le manuscrit original. Seule la première a été reprise pour la transcription. Marguerite Durand y fait une analyse détaillée et commentée de cette pièce féministe dont les personnages -avocate, écrivaine, femme médecin, journaliste – représentent les différentes figures de l’émancipation féminine. La pièce obtint un grand succès en 1913.
