[Introduction] Auteur de plusieurs disques et de nombreux ateliers d'écriture internationaux, d'un livre pour enfants et d'une d'exposition sur des escclaves fugitifs au Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec¹, le rappeur <> Webster (de son vrai nom Aly Ndiaye) est connu pour la profondeur de ses chansons, nourries d'Histoire (fidèle à sa formation d'historien), mais surtout d'un humanisme qui fait face non seulement aux attitudes racistes qu'il a dû affronter pendant sa jeunesse, et aussi à l'isolement créé par des barrières artificielles imposées par la société québecoise dont il fait partie.

Ousmane Sembène Et Le Cinéma Soviétique, Gesine Drews-Sylla

Taking Ousmane Sembène’s internship with the Soviet filmmaker Mark Donskoy as its point of departure, this article traces the entanglement of Sembène’s early films with Soviet cinema. To this end, I will be focusing on the general context of montage and cinema of the Thaw, while giving special consideration to a short Soviet documentary film celebrating Senegalese independence. In particular, paradigms of Thaw cinema can be discerned in Sembène’s Borom Sarret, where they are coupled with the claim to cinematic dialectic, resulting in an active translation into African contexts. This article analyzes Le dernier de l’Empire (1981) by Ousmane Sembène with the main objectives of examining how the postcolonial societies in Africa are touched by many kind of problems addressed by this author in literature. In fact, the book chosen for this study covers the question of the political aspects of the societies, the dictatorship under the name of democracy, corruption as a norm, and many other points. This study examines Sembène’s novel from the point of view of his interpretation of social and political realities. It depicts the post-independence disillusionment of Senegal.

The role of sound is analyzed in five films by Ousmane Sembène, including his first films Borom Sarret (1963), Niaye (1964) and La Noire de... [Black Girl] (1966). The sounds weave an ensemble or “braid” themselves into the fabric of the film in accordance with a concept theorized by critic Trish FitzSimons. This specific nature of braided sounds reveals narrative elements by way of Sembène’s sound technologies and choices and thus invites spectators to enter into a dialogic community, or even a discursive community, with the filmmaker, his films, and other spectators world-wide.

In La Sorcière, Jules Michelet uses the strength and the myth of the Medea character, which had already fascinated Corneille. In the second part of his work, Michelet creates nominative witches after authentic texts. In the first part, he creates an allegoric witch on the Medea model: the Woman, a victim of arbitrariness, injustice and repression, rises up against her oppressors, figuring the march of Humanity towards Enlightenment and Liberty. This paper examines numerous pre-texts in Anglo-American feminist theology and critical theory seminal to the establishment of feminist philosophy of religion as a distinct academic discipline. Specifically, I trace early reception of philosopher Luce Irigaray’s writing on becoming divine women in Anglo-American feminist circles, arguing that critical attention to the “horizons of expectations” around Irigaray’s person is a necessary step to the myriad readings of her work. This thesis explores the theme of amorous waiting in the literature of Gustave Flaubert and Henry James. Roland Barthes' definition of waiting, as articulated in A Lover's Discourse, is used as a tool to examine the waiting conditions of characters in Madame Bovary, The Beast in the Jungle, and The Ambassadors. By using the Barthesian framework, this thesis identifies and analyzes different forms of gender-based waiting and their distinctive consequences. However, it also notes that the primary texts further complicate the relationship between romantic waiting, gender, and autonomy. Vietnam during French colonialism (1861-1945) was a site of hybrid enunciations that displayed tensions with multiple languages (Chinese, Vietnamese, French) and multiple scripts (classical Chinese, Nôm script, Quốc Ngữ, and French) while existing under the influence of various powers (the Nguyễn feudal dynasty, the French colonial government, and the nascent Democratic Republic of Vietnam). The array of choices reflected a state of confusion in which every decision made by Vietnamese translators was inherently political. This eccentric hybridity is well exemplified in translations by Phạm Quỳnh 范瓊 (1892-1945), a late Nguyễn dynasty monarchist and early French colonial collaborator.

This resource is a proficiency-framed, communicative, and task-based e-textbook for Intermediate French II.

Because learners at this level primarily communicate in sentence-level responses about routine, everyday situations, the four units of this e-textbook focus on strengthening skills across the three modes of communication—interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational—while deepening intercultural competencies. Unit themes include:

• presenting oneself and exploring bilingual, intersectional identity;
• engaging in written, oral, and mediated exchanges on topics of personal interest
• examining perspectives, products, and practices of francophone cultures and comparing them with one’s own; and
• mapping linguistic and cultural competencies onto students’ future personal and professional goals.

This research aims to examine MNSU French students’ perspectives on classroom testing, feedback practices and their impact on learning. Using an online questionnaire, data were collected from 18 students enrolled in French 102, French 202, French 404 and French 452. The results indicated that the students in the French program at MNSU positively perceived the classroom testing and feedback practices. They understood the purposes and benefits of classroom testing and feedback provision as these encouraged them to study in order to retain the content, tracked and checked their learning progress in relation to their learning objectives, and provided them with …

: The fairy of Charlotte-Rose de Caumont La Force’s fairy tale Persinette (Rapunzel) is a complex and ambiguous figure that does not fit into a simple binary of victims and aggressors. I argue that La Force’s adaptation of the fairy tale of the girl in the tower gives the fairy prominent status as one of the main characters instead of being relegated to the usual secondary role. Le parfait crime (1995) by Jean Baudrillard and Crimen ferpecto (2004) by the Basque director Alex de la Iglesia are two works that not only have in common almost identical titles. They both reflect on how in consumer societies, an imperfect real world is substituted for an illusory hyperreality in which the distinction between subject and object has disappeared. "Un bon vin blanc" (A fine white wine), is a French sentence in which every French nasal vowel that will be discussed in this article: [œ̃ ], [ɔ̃], [ɛ̃], [ɑ̃] is represented. Nasal vowels are « produced by lowering the velum and allowing the air to pass outward through the nose » (Halle, Morris, et Clements 1983). This phenomenon is called nasalization. This article analyses the correspondence between Mongo Beti, and his editor, Les Éditions Africaines or Présence Africaine, from the early 50s to 90s. At the beginning of his writer life, Mongo Beti was confronted conditions of publication in French postcolonial era.
