Any one who has been intrigued by English lyrical poetry soon becomes aware of the fact that many English poems are of practically the same form, that they are fashioned according to various definite patterns. Naturally, the first question which occurs to the reader is ’’Why do many poems in one language exhibit such identity of construction?" A Comparison Of Certain English And French Poets Of The Romantic Era, Robert Howard O'Keef
Bachelors’ Theses
It is the purpose of this paper to compare the poetry of the romantic movement in England and in France. First it will present the characteristics of the leading poets in each of these countries. Then these traits will be compared to determine in what respects they were similar and what respects they differed. Lastly, there will be a discussion of the concepts of romanticism held by the leading poet is each nation, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Keats and Shelley in England, and Lamartine, Vigny, and Hugo in France are the romanticists to be considered.
