Journal of Undergraduate Research at Minnesota State University, Mankato

This research covered the basic outline of the Works Progress Administration (WPA), as well as its origin and development. Specifically, the many areas of art were examined in greater detail. Major points discussed were architecture, visual art, writing, music, theatre productions, and a larger portion on dance. With these points, other aspects such as particular influences on these Arts areas were also described. Finally, the importance of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) on furthering the Arts was addressed.

A. G. SMITH was born in New Mexico, grew up in North Carolina, and received formal art instruction at East Carolina University, where  he earned a B.F.A. He has an M.A. and a M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. He was an instructor of printmaking and figure drawing at  Morehead State University in Kentucky, and now lives in Detroit; he  teaches intaglio printmakng at the University of Windsor. His work has been shown at numerous juried exhibitions, and he has had many one-man shows. The "landscapes" were done in the late 60's.

I make sociopolitical art because I am of a historically oppressed people. I make art that celebrates my diverse culture that is a collage of Native American, African, and New Orleans’ French Creole.

Getting Sandy: Creating Collapsing Sand Effects For An Ode To Love, Pisut Wisessing

This thesis presents an artistic approach of creating collapsing sand effects in Brown Bag Films' animated short, An Ode To Love, directed by Matthew Darragh. A combination of rigid body simulation and fluid simulation tools, which are available in Houdini 3D animation software version 13, was used to successfully complete the task. A detailed design and implementation process to achieve the effects is documented in this work.

Shtetl looks at the Jewish community as a whole by focusing on the individuals within it. Jews are an incredibly diverse people. They come from all walks of life and racial backgrounds. Contrary to popular belief, there is no stereotypical Jewish person. Not all Jews are rich, nor do they all have curly dark hair and big noses. By being forced to look at the individuals within the community together, it becomes clear that while all of these individuals are Jewish, and therefore bound to each other because of it, they are all different and break this stereotypical mold.

Musical Landscapes: Theophile Gautier And The Evolution Of Nineteenth Century French Poetry, Dana Milstein

Theophile Gautier's first edition of Emaux et camees (1852) marks the juncture at which Romantic, Neoclassical, and nascent Symbolist poetic theories converged under the umbrella ideology of "Parnassianism." Emaux et camees synthesizes the aesthetics promoted by these diverse groups, primarily by 1) using "musical" and "painterly" language, 2) emphasizing correspondences among arts, and 3) paradoxically demanding an attention to form and the artist's labor while also emphasizing art's inutility during a century characterized by Progress. Gautier's Emaux et camees bridges painterly and musical poetics to create a new model for poetry.
