The purpose of this study is to examine differences in eye-tracking patterns between high and low risk groups of young adult women (based on the presence or absence of eating-disordered cognitions) using Scan Path Analysis. Recently, the BYU Communication Research Center purchased eye-tracking equipment from Applied Science Laboratories in Boston, MA. This equipment allows researchers to measure eye-movements in milliseconds across both still and dynamic images in real time. Data include not only the scan path or actual gaze trail, but also fixations (points of pause) and pupil expansion.

Greeting cards are a special way of saying I care about you and what is happening in your life. In addition, the illustration is a primary factor in selecting a particular card to buy. In stores, I studied existing LDS cards and found most are not ascetically pleasing or artistic. To improve this, I developed a line of cards with exciting color and a twist to the usual themes.

The cult of Madonna dell’Arco is centered at a large pilgrimage church several miles outside the city of Naples on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. The shrine attracts thousands of pilgrims every year who come from all over the Campania region of southern Italy to venerate a miracle-working fresco of the Virgin and Child. This image of Madonna dell’Arco, or the “Madonna of the Arch,” first gained its reputation for supernatural powers in the 1450s. The news media relentlessly covered Hurricane Katrina and it’s reign of destruction since it first touched down near the gulf coast in 2005. The havoc it wreaked on the homes, businesses, and individuals in that area has made federal reports herald it as “one of the worst catastrophes in the history of the United States.” While the torrential rains, high winds, and levy waters left several parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida in shambles, New Orleans was arguably the hardest hit. Even a month after the storm, towns were still without drinkable water and electricity.

Since their arrival in Naples during the thirteenth century, the Carmelite friars have safeguarded a miraculous icon of the Virgin and Child in their church of S. Maria del Carmine Maggiore on Piazza Mercato. Due to the dark complexion of the Virgin and her son, the image acquired the name, “La Bruna,” or “the Brown One.” Mary holds the Christ Child lovingly against her face, the vivid red of his robe enveloped by her dark blue mantle and highlighted by the gold ground behind them. My initial proposal was to have 12 works, 3’x6′ hung as an installation, for the viewers to walk through. I didn’t end up getting the space that I had hoped for, which dramatically changed how I decided to hang the work. For my ORCA project I was attempting to determine how conflicts of loyalty were addressed in modern public relations practices. From previous research I had determined that there were no clear cut guidelines for public relations practitioners to use when evaluating and deciding between two conflicting loyalties. One of the most mysterious architects of the Islamic Middle East was Mimar Sinan, the Ottoman architect who designed some of the most famous Ottoman buildings during the 16th century CE. He grew up as a Christian youth in the central part of Anatolia (modern day Turkey) but was co-opted into the Ottoman Janissary army where he eventually rose to become the Chief Architect of the Ottoman Empire. In term of techniques, it includes two things: the painting process and painting materials. Painting materials determine the painting process, and the painting process had to avoid the shortcomings of the materials. The written violin repertoire is vast, yet the amount of published material is relatively limited to performers. Available viola repertoire is even narrower. A change of viewpoint can dramatically alter the way we interact with out surroundings. Photographing the Great Salt Lake from the air enabled us to show the beauty of our everyday landscape that often goes unnoticed due to our perspective from the ground. This project also allowed me to challenge the fixed notion of what natural beauty is.
