In early 2021, the Schusterman Library at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa satellite campus took a new step towards building a culture of interest by creating the Graphic Scholarship Collection. This new endeavor is a curated collection of graphic novels, primarily non-fiction, aligned with the academic programs on campus, as well as promoting University initiatives in diversity, equity, and inclusion. A new organizational structure for the collection materials and their circulation metrics will be examined in detail. May the Soil Be Everywhere is a feature-length documentary film that tells an intimate four-generational family story about farming, survival, and regeneration. Set against a backdrop of war, famine, and rapid urbanization, May the Soil Be Everywhere delves into oral history, trauma, family heritage and generational love. It represents a community’s collective effort to preserve its identity.

The Power Of Polish: Exploring The Impact Of Nail Adornments On Perceptions Of Attraction, Sara Demichele

Honors Theses

Understanding the significance of nail adornments in shaping perceptions of attractiveness and mate value provides insights into human behavior and preferences. In the current investigation, participants rated human nail length and color on physical attractiveness and partner desirability measures. Results revealed significant effects of nail length and color across different demographic groups. Medium-length nails consistently received higher ratings for physical attractiveness, cuteness, and partner desirability compared to short and long nails. White-colored nails were generally rated most attractive, while blue and black nails received the lowest ratings. This paper includes academic theories and themes like the halo effect, theories of seeing (scopophilia, Laura Mulvey, male gaze, sporting gaze, gaze theory), and medium theory. Creative themes include architecture, gender in sports (Title IX), and film, digital, and experimental photography. Sports discussed include men's and women's ice hockey, baseball, american football, men's basketball, and men's soccer.

Proposed regulations for alcohol advertising prevent beverage companies from targeting people under the legal drinking age. However, similar regulations for alcohol alternative beverages are less explored, which could allow alcohol alternative products to create awareness for alcoholic beverages among youth. Alcohol alternatives beverages, including no-alcohol and low-alcohol products, are increasing in popularity and can function as compliments to alcoholic products to decrease the total alcohol volume consumed or as substitutes for alcoholic products. Moonshine Babies is a two-screen film made of collage/cut-out stop-motion and live-action. It is a visual poem based on my journals from when I recently started living in the US as an outsider. The experience left me feeling divided between the empty present and memories of the past. suggesting that there are collective memories among a group of interconnected individuals that unite them within a single narrative.

This project takes the form of practice-led research consisting of a short experimental film and an accompanying written exegesis. Together they investigate a specific form of cinematic identification associated with the films of Paul Schrader. Schrader’s films have developed a cinematic identification that oscillates between attraction and repulsion and in doing so complicates the spectator’s identification with the main character. To understand how Schrader’s films engender this form of identification the written component conducts an analysis of the cinematic techniques employed in his films, and a literature review of research. This interdisciplinary project investigates the therapeutic impact of Studio Ghibli films, with a particular focus on themes of resilience and healing. By conducting an in-depth analysis of My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989), and Princess Mononoke (1997), the study examines how director Hayao Miyazaki employs motifs such as magical realism, transcendental beauty, and the interconnectedness of humans and nature to craft narratives that evoke profound emotional responses. Female rage exists outside of the constructed masculine ideal of anger. To examine female rage, one must analyze the intersections between gender and race. I examine white women's privilege and access to female rage in reality and the fictional world. I explore Black Feminist poetry as a form of storage for rage at gender-based prejudice, racial injustice, and their intersection. Using Myisha Cherry’s term “Lordean Rage”, I recognize this specialized manifestation of female rage as an artistic, intergenerational source of energy for change.
