This poem speaks of Cambodia where skin lightening ingredients such as mercury can be found in an alarming number of beauty products. Beauty standards often make women around the world feel as though we need to strive to be perfect, better, continually comparing ourselves to someone else. This poem emerges from a trip I took to Cambodia, where I noticed the drive for women to achieve pale skin. In this paper I offer personal reflections on life in Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic. I reflect on what it means for a migrant woman with a complex traumatic past to be indefinitely stranded. I also draw on experiences of other migrant women living in Australia during the pandemic. The reflection brings attention to personal narratives that contribute to the growing importance of women’s herstories. With this narrative, I want to pay tribute to migrant women’s lives and by using my own experiences as a case study to reflect on personal struggles that the COVID-19 pandemic triggered. This article comprehensively presents evidence of shared gender economics in accessing credit for women-owned ventures. The ‘she’ based approach has faced financial-market differentiations when it comes to women’s access to finance. This paper aims to dissect and analyze the trends of domestic violence against women in India. It will explore the factors contributing to the risk and prevalence of violence against women following the implementation of the Domestic Violence Act of India in 2005. This study also assesses the magnitude of violence that makes women vulnerable. In addressing the above-mentioned objective, this study has used data from the National Family and Health Survey collected in 2005-06 and 2015-16. On December 31, 2016 amidst New Year’s Eve revelry in Bangalore, India, about 700 young women faced a mass molestation. This research analyzed and compared 299 news articles (N=299) between January 1, 2017 and February 1, 2017 from three leading English language newspapers in India through a quantitative content analysis. Results indicated that there were differences in how the regional and national newspapers framed their stories. While national newspapers deployed the episodic frame in their news stories, the local newspaper used both thematic and episodic frames. This paper aims to analyze linguistic sexism in the Pre-intermediate Market Leader: Business English Course Book used at Sohar University to teach the following two Business English courses to level 1 students: English for Business Communication and English for Organizational Communication. Quantitative content analysis is used to investigate the following gender-related categories: pronouns, terms of address, names, gender firstness, and nouns. This paper traces the evolution and regeneration of the feminist movement in Pakistan. It examines the contemporary feminist movement in the country against the backdrop of strong opposition faced by protest style congregations named ‘Aurat March’ on international women’s day. Weaving the narrative through conversations of leading feminists and prominent individuals belonging to the religious right, it postulates how the backlash to raising issues of sexuality and body politics has regenerated the feminist movement in Pakistan.

According to Huntington’s (1991) theory of “reverse democracy”, countries undergoing (or having undergone) a transition to democracy during a wave are always subject to democratic backsliding in the subsequent wave. During the third wave democratization, the fall of the Soviet Union and other despotic regimes in Latin America led to the gradual “autocratization” of many of these countries in the late 1990s and early 2000s. A Deviant Or A Victim Of Pervasive Stigmatization: Wicked Women In Kavita Kané’S Lanka’S Princess, Meenakshi Meenakshi, Nagendra Kumar

Building on the foundational theories of Judith Butler and Edwin Schur, this paper scrutinises the traditional myth of the Hindu epic the Ramayana and argues: (1) how socially constructed gender performance is naturalised by cultural ideology and (2) how infringement of this performance leads to labelling individuals as deviant. Women who transgress these cultural ideologies are defined as deviant and subjected to various punishments, from public humiliation to genital mutilation. Through an exploration of the novelist Kavita Kané’s mythology inspired novel Lanka’s Princess (2017), this paper focuses on the mythical figure known as Surpankha whose character embodies masculine attributes …

The archetype of the mother is always perceived as ‘pacifist’ in war and conflict situations. However, there are numerous examples when mothers are not ‘pacifist’ but become participants and perpetrators of war. This article, through the analysis of the experiences of the mothers in the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), an armed nationalist organization waging war against the Indian nation-state to establish ‘sovereignty’ and ‘liberate’ Assam since1979, argues that mothers can also be warriors, going beyond their ‘pacifist’ archetype. This study examines the deep-rooted socio-cultural practices of institutional prostitution, which is one of the factors contributing to sex trafficking in Central India. There are some states where women and girls are vulnerable to trafficking. The Honorable Supreme Court of India became aware of the issue and directed the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) to make a special report on the missing women and children. According to the NCRB report, Madhya Pradesh (M.P.) state ranks first in child trafficking and third in women's trafficking. Feminist anti-violence organizations provide much needed services and advocate for changes to culture and policy. However, their ability to continue with this work is jeopardized by fraught and changing relations with governments. This is especially the case for state-funded feminist service organizations which, through their ties to state funders, risk their ability to engage in advocacy. While scholars and activists warn of the challenges associated with state funding, situating funding relationships within particular social, historical, geographic, and political contexts can illuminate both the threats facing feminist service organizations, as well as openings in the political opportunity structure.
