The purpose of this research was to gain information about Lars-Erik Larsson and his contributions to trombone repertoire. The specific problems of the study were as follows: 1) to identify and investigate Larsson’s major contributions to twentieth century music; 2) to identify and investigate Larsson’s contribution to trombone repertoire; 3) to analyze Larsson’s Concertino for Trombone and String Orchestra Op. 45 No. 7 in terms of form, structure, and twentieth century techniques. A biographical overview of Larsson’s life is given as background and as insight to his compositions.

The works of the Austrian writer Ilse Aichinger are often considered impenetrable and incomprehensible. Aichinger’s doubt about conventional language serves as the basis for her use of highly pictorial and complex linguistic constructions. Although many literary scholars have alluded to the impenetrability of Aichinger’s works, few attempts have been made to investigate the meaning of her texts. In his theory of aesthetic response, Wolfgang Iser explains that literary works contain vacancies in the system of the text that need to be filled by the reader’s imagination. The poetry of Lope de Vega has most often been analyzed for its treatment of themes such as love, religious devotion, or autobiographical introspection. However, one other key aspect of his poetry, especially of his longer poetical works (such as his epistolas and eglogas), is the engagement of literature and ethical concerns often related to the art of writing poetry. In their research on pronouns of address in German, French, Italian and Spanish, Brown and Gilman (1960) collected data indicating that these four languages used two levels of pronouns of address (formal and informal) governed by two social semantics (power and solidarity). Further research on American English (Brown and Ford 1961; Slobin 1968; Ervin-Tripp 1972), Italian (Bates and Benigni 197 5), French and Spanish (Lambert and Tucker 1976) and Greek and Latin (Dickey 1996; 2002) confirmed Brown and Gilman's (1960) conclusions. John. A. Merchant examines the impact of a contemporary cultural movement, Irish Ireland, on its Polish counterpart, Young Poland. He traces the reception of Irish literature in the form of translations of works by W. B. Yeats and John Millington Synge in Poland through translations by Jan Kasprowicz, Zenon "Miriam" Przesmycki and others as well as through a variety of cultural commentaries by Polish critics and by means of stage productions of Irish plays by theater directors, such as Tadeusz Pawlikowski.
