Diagnosis Of Depersonalization Disorder, Margaret R. Dehoff
Diagnosis Of Depersonalization Disorder, Margaret R. Dehoff
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Depersonalization Disorder (DPD) is considered both under-researched and under-diagnosed. A variety of reasons have been proposed for the under-diagnosis of DPD, including the high frequency of depersonalization as a symptom and comorbidity of DPD with other disorders. Under-diagnosis of DPD has also been attributed to inadequate diagnostic criteria in the DSM-IV-TR, as it lists only four criteria and only one specifically addresses the phenomenon of depersonalization. Several groups of researchers have proposed more comprehensive and in-depth conceptualizations of DPD. Further, common biases in clinical decision-making, such as an over-reliance on cognitive heuristics and the use of prototypes, can contribute to …
Sexual Selection And Plumage In The Polymorphic White-Throated Sparrow, Nathan Rathbun
Sexual Selection And Plumage In The Polymorphic White-Throated Sparrow, Nathan Rathbun
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Feather coloration has been known to be connected with sexual selection for many years. It also provides an opportunity to study evolution, focusing on sexual selection and natural selection. Plumage is affected by both of these forces and the equilibrium is where these forces balance. The white-throated sparrow gives us a unique opportunity to observe the effects of the different strengths of these forces within a species. First, I established that there were differences in plumage characteristics between the morphs and sexes. White males had the brightest white and darkest black feathers. White females and tan males were the next …
The Attitudes Of Middle Eastern Faculty Toward The Use Of Distance Education In The Middle Eastern State Universities: A Comparative Study Between The Middle Eastern Faculty And Usa Faculty, Farooq A. Altameemy
The Attitudes Of Middle Eastern Faculty Toward The Use Of Distance Education In The Middle Eastern State Universities: A Comparative Study Between The Middle Eastern Faculty And Usa Faculty, Farooq A. Altameemy
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Although distance education is offered in many academic institutions, specifically universities, in most of the developed countries, utilizing it as a part of the educational system in the Middle East is still in the development stage and not at the same stage as Western and European countries. Of the institutions in the Middle East that have started utilizing distance education, many face difficulties, an example of which is that these distance programs are not accredited by the educational system in the country. In turn, this leads to other problems for graduates of these distance programs, such as inability to find …
A Program Evaluation: Therapeutic Playgroup For Preschool-Aged Children With Mental Health Needs, Denise M. Harden
A Program Evaluation: Therapeutic Playgroup For Preschool-Aged Children With Mental Health Needs, Denise M. Harden
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The understanding of preschool children has been explored in the fields of developmental psychology and early childhood education. The field of school psychology has also increased interest in the assessment of the social and emotional functioning of preschool children (Martin, 1986). Currently, there are changes in national education policy and societal pressures for systematic, professional assessment and intervention with younger children (Executive Office of the President, 1990). In addition, focus has been placed on the incorporation of evidence-based practices into assessment and treatment (Tolan & Dodge, 2005). Mental health services, in particular, aim to address the social and emotional needs …
Optimal Experience In Relationships, Activities, And Beyond: Connecting Flow With Self-Expansion, Brandy M. Dean
Optimal Experience In Relationships, Activities, And Beyond: Connecting Flow With Self-Expansion, Brandy M. Dean
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Flow is a state of optimal experience characterized by complete immersion in an enjoyable activity and has been associated with positive experience in activities. Self-expansion is a state of increase in the diversity and complexity of the self and has been linked with positive experience in relationships. Despite phenomenological similarities, the connection between these two states has not been examined. The current study used a correlational design to explore the degrees of overlap between these states by comparing them in general, situation-specific, and predictive contexts. It was expected that flow and self-expansion would occur at similar frequencies, be produced by …
Professional Psychology Training Programs: Program Interventions And Prediction Of Doctoral Student Stress And Life Satisfaction, Crista Montgomery M.S
Professional Psychology Training Programs: Program Interventions And Prediction Of Doctoral Student Stress And Life Satisfaction, Crista Montgomery M.S
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A growing literature on professional training and practice of psychology advocates that psychologists must be educated on risks and effects of impairment and the importance of self-care. Despite the general recognition of the importance of these issues, they have not been incorporated into training standards such as the American Psychological Association (APA) Guidelines and Principles of Accreditation (2007). In order to assess the approaches that programs currently adopt to address impairment and self-care, this study extended and updated previous research. A large sample of students (n = 591) enrolled in APA accredited doctoral training programs in professional psychology completed surveys …
Pollinator Deception And Plant Reproductive Success In Jack-In-The-Pulpit, Joseph L. Pettit
Pollinator Deception And Plant Reproductive Success In Jack-In-The-Pulpit, Joseph L. Pettit
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
I conducted a study of the deceptive pollination system of Jack-in-the-pulpit (Arisama triphyllum, Araceae) in forests of west-central Indiana. I focused on (a) determining the identities and abundances of insect visitors to spathes, (b) evaluating the success of female spathes in setting fruit, (c) determining the relative importance of pollinator visitation and plant size for fruit number, and (d) investigating the function of the female spathe’s lack of an exit hole, which has been hypothesized to improve pollination success. I found that (a) Jack-in-the-pulpit receives visits from both flies and thrips. Counts of fly corpses from spathes showed the most …
Becoming A Boy: Disability & Masculinity In Rodman Philbrick’S Freak The Mighty, Courtney Cohen
Becoming A Boy: Disability & Masculinity In Rodman Philbrick’S Freak The Mighty, Courtney Cohen
Renée Crown University Honors Thesis Projects - All
My Capstone thesis is a discussion of the various representations of disability in Rodman Philbrick’s children’s book and the film it was made into. In analyzing the characters, relationships between the characters and vernacular used within the text, I came to the conclusion that certain parts of the book, including the inclusion of not one, but two characters with impairments as main characters, serve to engage the book in a complex discourse with various concepts of disability and masculinity.
In order to place Philbrick’s text within a larger discourse of disability studies, I analyze it with regard to theories of …
An Investigation Of The Reliability And Validity Of The Caperton Forgiveness Styles Inventory, Duane Caperton
An Investigation Of The Reliability And Validity Of The Caperton Forgiveness Styles Inventory, Duane Caperton
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research was an investigation into the process of forgiveness. The analysis of qualitative interviews with nearly 100 participants suggested four different approaches, or styles, of forgiving and non-forgiving. The Intrapersonal style describes people who forgive other people by focusing on their own thoughts, feelings, and actions. The Interpersonal style describes people who forgive other people by focusing on the thoughts, feelings, and actions of the offending persons. The Easy Going style describes the people who never forgive anyone because they rarely or never feel offended and consequently rarely or never feel the need to forgive others. The Grudge Holder …
Male Adolescents Of Divorce: The Relationship With Their Noncustodial Father, Christine L. Kerr
Male Adolescents Of Divorce: The Relationship With Their Noncustodial Father, Christine L. Kerr
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since the divorce rate in the United States began to rise dramatically in the 1970s, researchers have studied the impact of divorce on those involved. The research indicates that children whose parents divorce are more likely than children whose parents remain married to suffer from a lower level of well-being and are at greater risk for a myriad of ills including poorer school performance and increased behavior problems. While few researchers have focused on the impact of divorce on male adolescents specifically, studies of adolescent males in general indicate they are at risk for a variety of problems including poor …
Foraging Behavior And Seasonal Movements Of The Eastern Red Bat (Lasiurus Borealis) In Central Indiana, Brianne L. Everson
Foraging Behavior And Seasonal Movements Of The Eastern Red Bat (Lasiurus Borealis) In Central Indiana, Brianne L. Everson
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Twenty-four female Eastern red bats (Lasiurus borealis) were captured and tracked to foraging areas near the Indianapolis International Airport during the summers of2003 and 2004 with full foraging data obtained on 13. A series ofmulti-azimuth (3-7) triangulations was used to estimate the location of each bat throughout the night. Euclidean distance analysis was used to examine habitat use by L. borealis. These bats had smaller home ranges than previously noted as well as smaller home ranges than other species at this location. They foraged over woodlands, newly planted tree fields, open water, park and pasture lands more than predicted by …
Nomadismos Lingüisticos Y Culturales En Yo-Yo Boing De Giannina Braschi (Linguistic And Cultural Monadisms In 'Yo-Yo Boing' By Giannina Braschi), Laura R. Loustau
Nomadismos Lingüisticos Y Culturales En Yo-Yo Boing De Giannina Braschi (Linguistic And Cultural Monadisms In 'Yo-Yo Boing' By Giannina Braschi), Laura R. Loustau
World Languages and Cultures Faculty Articles and Research
The Pitchman In Print: Oral Performance Art In Text And Context, Joseph Ugoretz
The Pitchman In Print: Oral Performance Art In Text And Context, Joseph Ugoretz
Publications and Research
Oral performance art, patterned performative speech for an audience, is perhaps the oldest and most ubiquitous human art form. Specific instances of this art include the performances of griots and guslars, troubadors and shamans, as well as rappers and riddlers, preachers and politicians. While this art form is by definition oral, it is also the case that, frequently, literary art has represented oral performance art. There is written art which depicts oral art, which describes it, appropriates it, criticizes and co‑opts it.
In this dissertation, I define oral performance art as constituting a separate and unique artistic genre, one which …
