Male Adolescents Of Divorce: The Relationship With Their Noncustodial Father, Christine L. Kerr
Male Adolescents Of Divorce: The Relationship With Their Noncustodial Father, Christine L. Kerr
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since the divorce rate in the United States began to rise dramatically in the 1970s, researchers have studied the impact of divorce on those involved. The research indicates that children whose parents divorce are more likely than children whose parents remain married to suffer from a lower level of well-being and are at greater risk for a myriad of ills including poorer school performance and increased behavior problems. While few researchers have focused on the impact of divorce on male adolescents specifically, studies of adolescent males in general indicate they are at risk for a variety of problems including poor …

Reconstructing Arda: Of Fëanor And The Unchaining Of Melkor, Douglas C. Kane
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Discusses Tolkien’s Silmarillion and how it was constructed from the materials later published in the twelve-volume History of Middle-earth, in particular the version of “Of Fëanor and the Unchaining of Melkor” in the published Silmarillion compared with the source material given in Morgoth’s Ring. The author finds intriguing patterns in what Christopher Tolkien used and did not use from the original material.

The Blade Against The Burden: The Iconography Of The Sword In The Lord Of The Rings, Michael J. Brisbois
The Blade Against The Burden: The Iconography Of The Sword In The Lord Of The Rings, Michael J. Brisbois
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Invites us to consider the deeper social implications of carrying and using a sword in the medieval world of Middle-earth—how bearing a sword not only indicates leadership and service, but provides an opportunity for social mobility, in addition to its more obvious military meanings. Considers as examples Merry and Pippin swearing oaths to, respectively, Théoden and Denethor; Éowyn’s heroic deeds; and especially Aragorn’s use of Narsil/Andúril as a symbol of legitimacy and service to his people.

Political And Cultural Battles In A Postcolonial Picture Book From Wales, Petros Panaou
Political And Cultural Battles In A Postcolonial Picture Book From Wales, Petros Panaou
Petros Panaou
Nationalistic projects and bloody conflicts around the world testify to the nation's determination to fight the forces that threaten its sovereignty. The present discussion reads Cantre'r Gwaelod (1996) – a Welsh book from the European Picture Book Collection – as an attempt to defend the idea of national identity. The colonial and postcolonial cultural battles that have been taking place in Wales, and elsewhere, for the duration of centuries have not left children, or children's literature, unaffected. When the Welsh picture book is situated in its local environment, it becomes apparent that it advocates resistance to `foreign invasion'. The waves …
