To locate Gravity's Rainbow as a postmodern text within modernist discourse is probably sort of an odd thing. Obviously, the books' thematic depictions of linguistic colonialism and discourse of control (capitalism), suggest the inscription of power relations into formulations of truth and rationality, and a postmodern analysis of discursive operations and hierarchies. Yet, I want to stress here the ways in which we have been oriented to access and reproduce the text through modernist discourse.

The very existence of fiction testifies to man's need for intricate models through which he may fashion and explore his life. Katherine Mansfield's contribution to modern British fiction has been virtually ignored in recent years; the two major periods of critical attention to her work were in the 1920's (right after her death) and the early 1950's. Critics of both groups have given extensive consideration to Mansfield's experimentation--independent of Virginia Woolf and James Joyce--with interior monologue, shifting narrative perspective and moments of revelation However, analyses of Mansfield have predominantly ignored her concerns as a woman writer. There is exclusive correspondence with many literary personalities including Malcolm Cowley, Josephine Herbst, James Farrell, Morley Callaghan, Stefan Zweig, Sholem Asch, Doris Lessing, Hart Crane, Hermynia Zur Mühlen, John Dos Passos, and Ford Madox Ford. There is also information pertaining to his work with the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and his service in the US Army Corps during World War II.

In 1971 Syracuse University Library made an agreement with the National Library of Australia, whereby the National Library microfilmed the complete manuscript collection of Nevil Shute Norway's papers in its possession and sent the microfilm to the Arents Library of Syracuse University. Syracuse makes this film available to responsible scholars with the understanding that users of the microfilm will cite the National Library of Australia as the repository owning the original manuscripts and will make all references to the numbering identification system prepared by the National Library.

The main purpose of this study is to present the political and social ideas which Benjamin Disraeli expressed through his fiction. His novels have been said to be a means whereby Disraeli clarified his ideas in his own mind before he attempted direct political or practical action. Since Disraeli was a statesman as well as a novelist, the question of whether or not, or to what extent, Disraeli's ideas were put into action is a more valid question, perhaps, than in the case of any other English author.
