This thesis will explore the characters and situations presented by Tennyson in "The Holy Grail" to reveal their human qualities and frailties for the purposes of examination and reflection in order to gain a greater understanding of spirituality . For Tennyson himself said that, "My meaning in the Idyll s of the King was spiritual. I took the legendary stories of the Round Table as illustrations. My honors thesis project involved turning one of my short stories, "Unfair," into an interactive multimedia CD-ROM. In adapting the story to this new medium, I struggled with what could be included in the project (both original text and new, multimedia elements); what had to omitted; how the story was to be organized and other implications resulting from the shift in medium. My original goal for this project was to modify a traditional text story, creating a version that was enhanced; that is, better than the original. Western Women’S Travel Writing About The Pacific Islands, Claudia Knapman

Pacific Studies

Although there has been a revival of interest in nineteenth-century women’s travel writing, this is a neglected area of Pacific scholarship. Though the work of Western women travelers who wrote about the Pacific Islands has been drawn upon by some researchers, this literature has not received attention as a genre, as a body of source material, or as the focus of academic research questions. This article, while neither a detailed analysis of particular writers and their works nor an attempt to delineate the field, uses three categorizations--the realist, the protofeminist, and the orientalist--derived from analyses of women’s travel writing elsewhere …

My project is to author a multimedia presentation of my grandfather's biography. To undertake such a project as this requires a certain awareness of the task. Even as I sat down the first time to contemplate what I was trying to accomplish, I began to realize the implications of the overall project. I'm not just speaking of the research and labor required to put it all together but something that must precede that.

The Poetics Of John Keats In "The Fall Of Hyperion, A Dream", Amy A. Zenger

The Hyperion poems are Keats's epics. Like Wordsworth in The Excursion, in these poems Keats attempts to write an epic of the unexplored regions of the human mind. Unlike Wordsworth, however, Keats uses the narrative vocabulary of Hellenic myth--a vocabulary already at hand--but alters it to suit his own purposes. As they are concerned with the mind, these poems deal with the same issues that characterize contemporary debates about the relation of mind to language, issues that illuminate what these poems are about as much as they illuminate Keats's own use of language and theory of poetry.

Wendt's accomplishments as an artist of Polynesia and positions he held at different universities are presented in Chapter I. This marks the significant contributions he has made in different genres in which he has written, like novels, short stories, and poetry, that make him a major influence in the Pacific.

Chapter II analyzes the theoretical framework within the fa'a-Samoa in which a matai (chief) is presented, a revered office filled by respectable individuals. To make this point clear, I present the theoretical groundwork in Appendix A of how an individual becomes a matai.

When examining ideas on the sexuality of Chaucer's characters, one cannot help but come across the work of Alfred David. In his bookTheStrumpet Muse, David studies selected Canterbury tales from the perspective of New Criticism, analyzing various sexual attitudes expressed in the separate tales. In this paper I appropriate a basic concept of David's and use it to my own feminist critical purposes, adding significantly to David's core idea. Throughout the following study of sexuality and power in the Canterbury Tales, I use "sexual natural" to define a certain state of human sexuality. While the term is my own, the …

The expression of divine order permeates much of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. The methods used in the attempt to express divine order vary greatly, most notably from the "Knight's Tale" to the "Second Nun's Tale." In the "Knight's Tale," Theseus operates within the hierarchy of the patriarchal feudal system. Situated at the top of the human chain of being, Theseus tries to duplicate the "ordre" which he finds embodied in the works of the Firste Moevere (3003). My dissertation is a scholarly edition of the poems, reviews, and letters of Elizabeth Moody (1737-1814), an English writer whose work has been out of print for nearly two centuries and has never been collected. Comprised of 109 poems, 29 reviews, and six letters, the edition contains substantial new biographical information and many heretofore undiscovered texts.

The product of a privileged, upper-middle-class milieu and a locale famed for wit and art, Moody from an early age conceived of herself as a reader, writer, and critic. In the edition's biographical/critical introduction I examine how her identity and writing were shaped by …
