Su Shi travelled extensively in China, with his particular interest in visiting temples. During his exiled and relegated periods, he composed a number of temple-visiting poems in places such as Fengxiang, Hangzhou, Huangzhou, and Lingnan. These poems manifest themselves in different literary tastes and aesthetic characteristics. They not only represent Su Shi's progress of Chan enlightenment but also embody the three paradigms of Northern Song literati's temple-visiting poetry, namely, realistic delineation of scenery, elaboration of truth and description of heart, and seeing the nature of mind.

In Foucault's early research on madness history which contains four stages, the path of reason repressing non-reason gradually transformed the connotation of non-reason from being "arational" to "irrational" in a subtle manner. The former is not being rational, but is compatible with complete reason. The latter is not being rational either and resists reason in the narrow sense, namely rationality. This path was strengthened in his later study which focused on Kant's idea of enlightenment and thus led to the thought of eventalization. Theory has pushed this process forward. Because of the birth of five-character poetry at the end of the Han dynasty, the folk yuefu narrative poetry led the trend and produced many excellent story poems. When literati five-character poetry rose, lyricism gradually overwhelmed narration. With their cultural training and knowledge cultivation, literati brought poetry and prose as well as embellishments into lyricism; as a consequence, rhetoric gradually emerged as a central element of poetry. As the emotional strength of lyric poetry decreased, literary grace became prominent. Based on the priority of "internal value" in the genesis of a text's value, this article studies the extension of value in literary classics and its pattern. As can be seen in the Chinese translation of Mark Twain's "Running for Governor" and its diachronic generation of meaning, a regular pattern of meaning generation in literary classics can be found via dialectic discussion: literary classics always release their "internal value" in accordance with the authors' ideal appeal and "initial readers'" pursuits, which lays the foundation for subsequent extension of meaning. Tony Bennett has established systematic theories and methodologies on the New Materialism from the perspective of governmentality, which, however, is often neglected by scholars. Based on intensive reading of relevant textual contents and conceptual interpretation, the article deeply and comprehensively investigates Bennett's New Materialism with dialectical analysis and reflection. It argues that Bennett has boldly assimilated the Actor-network Theory by the French post-structuralist sociologist Latour and others when recontextualizing, from the governmentality perspective, society, culture and their relationships. The Family Of Japanese No-Wa Cleft Construction: A Register-Based Analysis, Michiko Kaneyasu

This paper presents a comparative study of the Japanese (pseudo-)cleft no-wa construction, schematized as: [clause] no-wa [NP/AdvP/clause] (da), in four spoken/written registers: informal conversations, academic presentations, news reports, and newspaper editorials. The study finds that the no-wa cleft appears more frequently in non-objective discourse that deals with a higher level of complexity. Close examination of instantiations of the no-wa cleft uncovers various register-oriented functions that show a varied degree of family resemblance with one another. These functions can be subsumed under two general functional properties of the no-wa construction: highlighting function at the local level and (retrospective) anticipatory …

Jayavarman VII (ca. 1120–1218) is one of the best known Cambodian “Angkor” leaders, in part because he was able to unite the numerous small, fragmented Khmer Cambodian and Cham kingdoms of the day. He ruled his consolidated Khmer kingdom from 1181–1218, bringing the decentralized Khmer and Cham states together through political and military alliances. Religion, especially India-derived Brahmanism, or “Hinduism,” Mahāyāna Buddhism, and local Cambodian religion, was a key component of Khmer society. Over time different Khmer rulers endorsed one or more of the religious systems to their own advantage. Jayavarman VII was especially committed to Mahāyāna Buddhism, evidenced by …

Through introduction of Fujian Province as home to the largest migrant population in the world, this article aims to address the negotiation of intersections between local and global forces that form new spaces throughout the diaspora. The "third space," a term coined by Homi Bhabha, addresses the fluid identity of Chinese-Filipino individuals that both acknowledges the traditional notions of "Chinese" while being influenced by a history of colonization in the Spanish Philippines. I incorporate my own personal experience as an American-born Chinese-Filipino navigating new spaces, and also the experience of my family members through interviews.

在台灣新電影的發展中，楊德昌對於都市生活的刻劃有別於同期如侯孝賢等導演的鄉土懷舊抒情，他對於都市中潛伏的危機，或人與人關係的不穩定都有其與眾不同的處理手法。本文討論楊德昌的兩部電影，《牯嶺街少年殺人事件》（1991）是他作品中少見的以台灣本土歷史作題材的電影，但仍不失其對社會精準而細膩的批判。《一一》（2000）為楊德昌的遺作，透過台灣一個中產家庭的故事探討現代都市人的生存狀態，挖掘生命的意義。本文旨在探討《牯嶺街少年殺人事件》中的迷惘感、《一一》這部後期作品中所傳達的幻滅感，以及導演如何呈現兩代人所面對的不同的困境，以及存在的狀態。 本論文分為五個部分：第一章為緒論，指出楊德昌電影的主題和特色，及其在台灣新電影中的地位，並簡介兩部電影所處的歷史氛圍。第二章分析《牯嶺街少年殺人事件》中，台灣人的迷惘感。第三章討論《一一》中的幻滅感。第四章借用存在主義理論分析兩部電影所傳達的迷惘感及幻滅感。最後第五章為結論，總結這兩部電影對台灣社會歷史及人文價值的貢獻。

「帝王將相，才人佳子的故事，諸位聽得不少。那些情情義義，恩恩愛愛，卿卿我我，都瑰麗莫名。根本不是人間顏色。人間，只是抹去了脂粉的臉。」人生如戲，兩者之間從來沒有清晰的分界。

中國古代早有餘桃斷袖的典故，同志文學在幾千年來文學史上不無地位。若《品花寶鑑》是古代同性戀小說的其一代表，李碧華的《霸王別姬》就是近代文學史上的代表作。

學界對《霸王別姬》的研究無數，學者主要分析小說內容的象徵性、小說和中國歷史相關的背後隱喻、與陳凱歌的改編電影作對讀比較。此外，研究課題還包括為程蝶衣這個角色作不同的心理解讀，乃至研究程蝶衣是先天抑或是後天的同性戀者。但在研究成果中，卻鮮見結合心理、社會和舞台理論分析李碧華在小說中的同性戀建構。

本文第一部分以文本細讀的分析手段，附以心理學、性別和社會理論分析影響程蝶衣同性戀傾向的外在因素。第二部分將從中西方戲劇理論剖析舞台界線模糊與程蝶衣強化同性愛戀之關係，第三部份詳細探討其自身因素多大程度上促成小說可悲和遺憾的結局。

〈逝城〉中的人物，以「你」泛稱著正在閱讀此文的你，在即將踏入二零四七之際作為背景，長期瑟縮在家而不願面對你城萬千更替的「你」，接到了房東來信，給予了「你」搬家的命題，繼而展開搬家的工作：寫「你」找房子、更改戶籍，到最後搬屋後的狀況；同一時間，〈逝城〉又串插著「你」在家中所找到的《逝城》一書—— 一部企圖抨擊時政而最終不獲取錄的劇本，講述一個美滿家庭因社會建設的騙局而走向破碎的劇目，兩個故事雙線並行，各自暗暗地交代著香港這數十年的足跡與歲月。

就正如〈逝城〉一文中所言，「已逝之城還是將逝之城，這留待讀者的考量」。這篇文章的解讀，不同人或會有不同的意義，上一代人閱讀，也許會有一份熟悉與懷念感油然而生，因內文描寫著香港昔日的回憶，不論是「歡樂今宵」的晚安曲，或是那個「電視撈飯」的年代。但對於這一代的人而言，便是有著更深一層的想法，時代賦予了我們更多的命題：到底香港的前路如何、本土的價值、香港人的身分追尋與焦慮、甚至看完後是對「香港」一詞不禁有種悼念的感受，種種的種種均沒有一個實際的解答，然後換來的只有一份空虛與無力。希望透過〈逝城〉這篇作品，可以牽動你內心深處的某個角落，讓你能重新反思與正視香港這個城市，這片你生活已久的土地的存在。

In my piece, I work to determine the roots of these differences and to what degree these differences have been challenged and disrupted in the 20^th century. For centuries, China sought to suppress opium consumption within its borders. Following the Chinese Communist Party’s rise to power, the 1950’s drug suppression campaign initiated new attempts to bring about the end of opium’s presence within Chinese society. What led to this campaign’s success is its utilization of different strategies within each region of focus. The combination of strategies used allowed the CCP to eradicate all forms of the opium market in both urban and rural areas where the campaign was active. This thesis examines the methods used during the campaign and how these methods resulted in the campaign’s success.
