In February 2025 the Eastern Michigan University Archives joined the JSTOR initiative Project Odyssey as a beta community partner. The intention of Project Odyssey was to: “leverage generative AI to assist libraries and archives in processing their digital collections. This solution addresses frequent bottlenecks in the creation of descriptive metadata—a vital component for preserving and making collections discoverable.”

The Wyandot(te) have undergone language dormancy due to settler colonial impacts of warfare, refugee relocation, forced removals, and U.S. assimilation projects. One of the most pressing priorities among our people today is reawakening our ancestral language, Waⁿdat. The common follow-up question is: how? Through the conduit of Waⁿdat language reclamation, this project grapples with the above question in collaboration with the Wyandot(te) community, and in adherence to the tribal sovereignty of the Wyandotte Nation. Investigating The Relationship Between Noun Classes And Plant Folk Taxonomy In Chasu Language Of Kilimanjaro Region In Tanzania, Peter Rabson Mziray

The current study investigates the relationship between noun classes and plant folk taxonomy in Chasu (G 22). The study focuses on two objectives: the first objective is to describe the plant folk taxonomy in Chasu and the second objective is to determine the relationship between noun classes and plant folk taxonomy in Chasu. Data were collected from rural villages in Same and Mwanga districts by using free listing, field interviews (jungle-walk-and-identify), and written texts containing Chasu plant names. The findings reveal that Chasu folk taxonomy reflects different ethnobotanical categories; including a unique beginner which is mmea/mimea ‘plant(s)’, and three life …

[Purpose/significance] Topic evolution analysis can help researchers quickly grasp the research hotspots and development trends of a discipline. However, existing topic models often overlook the semantic functions and structures of texts during topic extraction, making it difficult to reveal the deeper patterns of disciplinary development. This paper proposes an integrated framework for topic evolution analysis that combines the BERTopic model with semantic functions, aiming to enrich and improve the methodological system of topic evolution research.

First Regional Library Celebrates 75 Years, David Brown

In 1947, the Citizen’s Library Movement of DeSoto County was formed to advocate for public libraries in the communities of Northwest Mississippi. These early visionaries saw the advantages of having a regional library system to share resources and materials. The Movement’s efforts led to the Supervisors of DeSoto, Lafayette, Panola, and Tate Counties to form First Regional Library in 1950, the first multi-county library system in Mississippi. In 1968, Tunica County joined the library system.

These communities have shown much growth in the past 75 years, and First Regional Library has grown with the communities it serves.. When First Regional …

In 1999, the Mississippi State University Libraries established the MegaResource School Librarian Workshop, a technology-focused workshop that provided K-12 librarians an opportunity to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Over the past 25 years, the workshop has evolved to meet the ever-changing needs of school librarians, however, the popularity of the workshop and limited spacing meant there was often a waiting list, creating an opportunity for other institutions to help fill this need. Over the past two decades, Mississippi public libraries have experienced a significant shift in how patrons access technology and information. Once central to bridging the digital divide, public computers and in-person reference services are now in decline, reflecting broader trends in digital access and self-service information seeking. Between 2013 and 2023, computer use sessions in Mississippi libraries dropped by 75%, while reference transactions decreased by over 50% from 2003-2023. This article explores the evolution of library technology services in Mississippi public libraries and offers a forward-thinking vision for the future. This tutorial introduces school librarians to the use of data visualization tools for documenting and communicating their impact on teaching and learning. By leveraging accessible platforms like Google Forms and Google Sheets, the authors demonstrate how librarians can build dashboards and real-time visual reports to showcase co-teaching, instructional collaboration, and student engagement. The tutorial features real-world examples, highlights common data sources already available to librarians, and argues that dynamic visual storytelling is a powerful alternative to traditional library statistics.

Recognizing that libraries serve multiple constituencies and subject areas, this chapter documents and advocates for development of transdisciplinary arts-based research (ABR) and culture-related projects linked to environmental challenges. Libraries contribute collections and spaces, as well as the research of library and information scientists. Libraries are currently among invisible contributors to sustainability planning and services. The chapter will link this invisibility to the value of what visual arts refer to as negative space elements in subjects ranging from traditional ecological knowledge to environmental science. The Binghamton University Libraries utilizes its Instagram platform to engage its audience to share information regarding its resources and services. Current research suggests elements such as color grading, scenic backgrounds, and maintaining a proper online social media presence affect how Instagram users engage with content. However, additional elements such as audience type and how they engage with content may factor into the Libraries’ reach on their platform. การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา 1) ลักษณะและสภาพการใช้เมทาเดทาเชิงบริหารที่ปรากฏอยู่ในระเบียนข้อมูลของคลังสถาบันในห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัย และ 2) ปัญหาในการใช้เมทาเดทาเชิงบริหารของบรรณารักษ์งานวิเคราะห์ทรัพยากรสารสนเทศ การวิจัยเป็นแบบเชิงปริมาณโดยใช้การสำรวจ (Survey Research) ประกอบด้วยการวิเคราะห์ระเบียนเมทาเดทาจำนวน 400 ระเบียนจากคลังสถาบัน 8 แห่ง และการเก็บข้อมูลด้วยแบบสอบถามและการสัมภาษณ์บรรณารักษ์งานวิเคราะห์ทรัพยากรสารสนเทศจำนวน 22 คนจาก 15 สถาบัน เพื่อประมวลลักษณะการใช้เมทาเดทา ปัญหา และทักษะที่เกี่ยวข้อง ผลการศึกษา พบว่า เมทาเดทาเชิงบริหารด้านการจัดการสิทธิ์ และด้านเทคนิค ปรากฏในสัดส่วนสูงสุดในทุกคลังสถาบัน โดยข้อมูลผู้สร้าง ผู้มีส่วนร่วม ลิขสิทธิ์ รูปแบบไฟล์ และขนาดไฟล์ถูกบันทึกอย่างสม่ำเสมอ ขณะที่เมทาเดทาด้านการสงวนรักษา เช่น ประวัติการจัดทำระเบียน แหล่งที่มา และข้อมูลระยะเวลาการเก็บรักษา แม้จะปรากฏในระดับปานกลาง แต่ยังมีความไม่สม่ำเสมอระหว่างสถาบันอย่างชัดเจน นอกจากนี้ รูปแบบการบันทึกเมทาเดทามักรวมอยู่ในเขตข้อมูลเมทาเดทาเชิงพรรณนาและเชิงโครงสร้าง มากกว่าการแยกเป็นหมวดเฉพาะ ซึ่งสะท้อนข้อจำกัดทั้งด้านระบบและแนวปฏิบัติของบุคลากร ผลการวิเคราะห์ปัญหา พบว่า บรรณารักษ์ประสบปัญหาในระดับปานกลาง โดยประเด็นสำคัญ ได้แก่ การขาดการส่งเสริมจากหน่วยงานสังกัด การขาดความตระหนักรู้ต่อบทบาทของเมทาเดทาเชิงบริหารต่อการอนุรักษ์ข้อมูลระยะยาว และข้อจำกัดด้านระบบและทรัพยากร แม้บรรณารักษ์จะมีทักษะการอธิบายข้อมูลในระดับปานกลางค่อนไปทางสูง แต่ยังขาดมาตรฐานกลางร่วมกันของสถาบัน ข้อเสนอแนะสำคัญจากการศึกษาครั้งนี้ คือ การจัดทำมาตรฐานกลางด้านเมทาเดทาเชิงบริหารสำหรับคลังสถาบันไทย การยกระดับบทบาทเชิงนโยบายของผู้บริหาร การพัฒนาศักยภาพบรรณารักษ์ด้านการอนุรักษ์ดิจิทัล และการปรับปรุงระบบคลังสถาบันให้รองรับเมทาเดทาเชิงบริหารเชิงลึก เพื่อเสริมคุณภาพการจัดการทรัพยากรสารสนเทศระยะยาวอย่างยั่งยืน

The SRIKANDI application, a cornerstone of Indonesia's digital records management initiative, embodies the nation's commitment to modernizing governance through electronic systems. This study employs Niels Windfeld Lund’s Complementary Documentation Analysis Model to dissect SRIKANDI'S evolution (diachronic analysis) and its current state (synchronic analysis), offering a comprehensive understanding of its role in Indonesia's e-government landscape. Diachronically, SRIKANDI'S development reflects a strategic shift from fragmented, standalone applications towards a unified, interoperable platform, as mandated by Presidential Regulation No. 95 of 2018. Using copy theory as a framework to explore document surrogacy and simulation, this paper discusses premodern manuscripts as a case study for understanding relevant aspects of temporality and materiality in the experience of documents to speculate on the nature of immersive documents of the future. This speculation is powered on mapping and synthesizing the paths of interconnected temporal and material change manuscripts have followed by examining multiple “versions” of these documents based on various contexts of use and access and technological innovations. Carpenter Library approached the Head of Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) with the idea to create a virtual reality (VR) experience using one of SCUA’s most accessed special collections: the Eartha M. Recent fears of data capitalism and colonialism often argue using implicit assumptions about cybernetic technology’s ability to automate data about culture. As such, the level of data granularity made possible by cybernetic engineering can be used to dominate society and culture. Here we unpack these implicit assumptions about the datafication of culture through memes, which both act as cultural data and cultural memory. Using Alexander Galloway’s critical method of protocological analysis and descriptions of media tactics, we respond to fears of cybernetic domination. Glass plate photographs, taken primarily between 1860-1930, were meant to document and preserve imagery, however, these photographs developed directly on glass are increasingly prone to destruction. With recent advances in imaging techniques, metadata, and collections care, the preservation of glass photography has evolved. This paper is a snapshot of the current best practices for preserving, digitizing, and storing glass plate and lantern slide photographs.
