This work seeks to expose the truth in as many different forms as possible. As the title, Tiny Supernovas, suggests, it is influenced by the concept of the explosions of super-massive stars. This explosion is known as a supernova. It is only through a supernova, only through the death and subsequent explosion of one of the largest sequence of stars, that we obtain many of the elements necessary for life here on earth. ‘Who is it that writes?’ is the central question of this thesis, which consists of a creative and a critical component. The creative work “Letters to Mark” is an attempt to address the questions, as similarly formulated by the poet Fernando Pessoa; who, really, am I? How many am I and, who is it that writes? It is a profoundly personal work, the origins of which reach back to my earliest days when I was first arrested by Nietzsche’s Thus Spake Zarathustra. This article addresses the terms of commitment in Vous n’êtes pas seul by Gérard Étienne. For one part, the representation of the poet-and-tramp pertains to a first type of ideological commitment. For the second part, the study of oxymorons and references to Baudelaire will lead to a definition of another commitment of poetry in the novel as a counter-discourse for the victims of social exclusion.
