This creative thesis contains poems arranged in two thematic parts. The first section, "Seaward," explores the world of commercial fishermen who work aboard enormous 365 foot factory trawlers in the Bering Sea. The content and language of this section depicts an adventurous and harsh environment, while the form of the poems creates a sense of waves heaving a boat up and down. The second section, "Landfall," deals primarily with experiences on land, ranging from forested landscapes of North America to desert landscapes of Mexico, from expressions of love for a mother to lamenting the death of a father.
