The Laissez Faire Political Vision Of John Milton In Paradise Lost, Gerald Keith Delles

John Milton's Paradise Lost, a work subject to an indefinite variety of readings, is here dissected to reveal the nature of Milton's political epistemology. Using his prose as the soil from which his ideas sprang and the whirlwind political climate of seventeenth century England as the catalyst of these ideas, the goal is to connect the implied political content of Paradise Lost with corresponding points in the prose and actual events of Milton's time, with the intent to form a blueprint of Milton's "political vision." The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought
Nationalism, both fashionable and deadly once more, is THERESA M. MACKEY's subject as she examines the writings of James Joyce. Rather than anti-nationalist, Mackey finds the later Joyce committed to a position akin to modern radically nationalist republicanism. Professor of English at St. John's College in Annapolis, Mackey is here publishing her first scholarly essay.
DOROTHY DODGE ROBBINS recounts the journey of Stephen Dedalus in James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist and how it fits the typology of such adventures in ancient and modern literature. Robbins is a doctoral student at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Nexus Literary Journal
Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.
