This capstone presentation is the culmination of a creative project that aimed to promote poetry through Fine Print, UMW’s poetry club on campus. The goal was to make poetry accessible for all on campus and build a specific community that celebrates it. Beyond spreading love of poetry, the purpose of this capstone was to leave Fine Print in a good place by building the club’s long-term engagement and participation, which grew exponentially throughout the semester. Although still a tight-knit community of poets, Fine Print encourages casual attendance to both events and meetings by anybody who finds it intriguing. Through regular …

The University of Nebraska at Kearney( UNK) is completing an extensive renovation to the Calvin T. Ryan Library. Nebraska’s 1% for Art Law requires that 1% of all state-funded projects be set aside for a public art commission. The Nebraska Arts Council spearheaded UNK’s search and out of over 100 submissions the successful applicant was Leslie Iwai, an accomplished artist with a history of creating thought-provoking pieces in public spaces, galleries and museums. Poetic Portraits Of Older Women In The Great Black Swamp, Sandra L. Faulkner

Dr. Faulkner discusses the importance of oral histories and listening to older women by presenting poetic portraits of older women in the Bowling Green area that she co-created from oral histories. This was a collaborative project with The Wood County Committee on Aging, the BGSU archives, and local women Faulkner interviewed about their experiences across their life course and contributions to our community. These poetic portraits and oral histories will be archived at the BGSU libraries for all of us to learn from.

As the intersection of race and gender is a feat for the strong Black man and strong Black woman, the double edged sword is the deterioration of mental health overlooked by the need to maintain the guise of perfection. The social disadvantages of this intersection include a myriad of traumas such as financial stability, violence and oppression, and the internal stigma of judgment, which causes Black men and Women to delay or go undiagnosed for mental health disorders.
