Time Machine is a hybrid documentary that explores the logics of enslavement, colonialism, eurocentrism and their interconnectedness in our globalized world. Mustapha Azemmouri, born in 1502, undertakes a journey to the 21st century to recount his own story of enslavement and exploration, and reflects on a collective puzzle of 500 years of hidden history.

"Choking Hazards" is a collection of three short stories and a poem. Identity, whether national or personal relies on a collective imagination formulated from both facts and fiction. Thus, the relationship of truth is equally indebted to history and invention. Zadie Smith’s craft essay, “Fail Better,” recognizes writing as, “the attempted revelation of this elusive, multifaceted self,” (Smith 355). Though we only have our own limited knowledge of the self, we can find other selves through literature. Grappling with these old selves and their histories is a centripetal process, where bodies, their limitations, coded interactions and social constructions cannot be …

I hope to be as honest as possible. I’m hoping to be the star of the show. This is a series of onanistic musings, a rambling narrative that oscillates between truth and fabrication. There are instances of earnestness paired with ostentatious exaggeration. The frequent leaps from subject to subject, often seemingly unrelated to one another, reflect the ineluctably scatterbrained headspace that dictates how I operate in the studio, in every facet of life. The Promethean

In September, we did not know that this edition of The Promethean would truly be the last. Riding the wave of Blue Apocalypse, our editors sat in front of each other composing a pool of possible themes. We wanted a title that captured the loss of the College of Arts & Sciences at Concordia University – Portland.

We were still present, learning, and generating beautiful work, despite mourning a gaping wound. We wanted to remind those around us—and even ourselves—that the literary heart of this university still burned with passion, talent, and perseverance.

A Blended Displacement; Stories from the Periphery, explores various forms and definitions of displacement through relationships, travel, and the sense of home. The thesis explores such subject matter as a creative work of mixed creative non-fiction and fiction. By engaging with controversial terms like expatriate, immigrant, refugee, and third-culture-kid, the work interrogates the political with the personal. The non-fiction part of the thesis centers on the narrative of a woman from Michigan living abroad, contrasting with the historical fiction portrayal of a Slovenian immigrant in Michigan. Samuel Beckett penned novels, short stories, poetry, stage plays, radio plays, and scripts—and he did each in a way that blended genre, challenged the norms of creative writing, and surprised audiences around the globe. His experimental approach to creative writing included the use of absurdism, genre-hybridization, and ergodicism, which led to Beckett fundamentally changing the approach to creative writing. His aesthetics have trickled down through the years and can be seen in contemporary works, including Aimee Bender’s short story collection The Girl in the Flammable Skirt and Mark Z. Danielewski’s novel House of Leaves[1]. By examining these works …

This thesis begins with a critical introduction which analyzes the use of objective correlative and varying points of view in creative writing in order to generate dialogue on cultural issues. I relate theories from Edward T. Hall, T.S. Eliot, Mikhail Bakhtin, and Lubomír Doležel to my own writing. Additionally, I situate my own multi-genre writing with work of contemporaries such as Maggie Nelson and Claudia Rankine. My hypothesis is that writers can use an objective correlative (Eliot) from the top of the cultural iceberg (Hall) as an entry point to representing deeper, more fraught cultural issues.
