I left Iran on July 4, 1975, returned the following year for a visit, not realizing that I would never return. The Islamic Revolution toppled the government of Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi in 1979, forcing most of the Iranian Jewish community to leave a country we had called home for over 2000 years.
Undoubtedly, the exile has allowed the Iranian Jews to sharpen our sense of pride and belonging to our heritage. Having lived on the fringes of often anti-Semitic populations, we had rarely believed in our own strength, rarely been allowed to study our history. In Iran, we tried …

In March of 1997, my sister, Fran, and I took our children to a photography studio in downtown Winston-Salem, N.C. I had my twin girls, who were eight weeks old at the time. Fran had Cameron, a grinning nine month old with curly red hair and startling green eyes. I'll never forget how Cameron looked that morning, giggling as he clapped his stubby fingers together for the photographer. I'll never forget the expression on my sisters' face as she watched Cameron with pride from the rear of the small, cluttered studio.

Nexus Literary Journal
Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.

The 2002 edition of The Broad River Review was edited by Abigale Wolford and C. V. Davis. The publication contains fiction; non-fiction; poetry; art; and photography by student; regional; and national writers and artists. The winner of the J. Calvin Koontz poetry award, given annually for a portfolio of poetry to a senior English major, is Sarah Thomas with Ron Rash serving as the contest judge.
